I want a repeat of this! Interesting that the Jan 2016 storm was 3" LE at JFK and over 30" of snow- that should be noted! Only 3" LE 30" snowstorm ever recorded in New York City! me too... https://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/orders/IPS/IPS-A0FD7F17-FE9A-44DD-9347-4E51031D223C.pdf

You don't even see storms hang around for 24 hours anymore (with the exception of January 2016), let alone 48 or 72! Which location had the highest amounts with it and how much was that? I think it was a series of waves along a stalled front that caused the length of it...there was a massive arctic high to the north with below zero temps a few days before the storm...it was a mixed bag of precipitation that was mostly frozen... http://wintercenter.homestead.com/photo1920.html

Was that the storm where we had something like 20" of sleet? I remember one of those happened in the 1920s. Best storms at JFK from what I've read and can recall were January 2016, January 1996, February 1983, February 1969, February 1960. JFK got 20" or more in all of those and 30" in the first one. I'm okay with it changing to rain/drizzle right at the end. We've had a few of those.

Stormlover74
35 years ago today. The great megalopolis blizzard of '83. The first real storm I remember. As an 8 year old I remember snow starting in the morning sitting in my 2nd grade classroom and getting out early. The next day I took the yardstick and measured 20" in the driveway but there were drifts of 3 to 4 feet all over the yard. Couldn't even walk through it. Anyway when my grandmother passed we were going through some old pictures and I found this one she took of my grandfather. I had forgotten how she kept track of all the major weather events and took lots of pics of snowstorms from the 50s through the 90s.

I always wonder what the breaking point will be where the warmup of the last 35 years finally decreases rather than increases the snow for the coastal areas of the northeast.
