Wow that's spectacular- I wonder what HDR software was used.  I wonder how far back she's been doing snowstorm photography in our area- I wanted to see if there was anything from the Jan 2016 30" historic blizzard.

Last time I believe that happened was with PDII.

That's what separates those storms into a category of their own.

Obviously January 5-6, 1996 is in that group.

Many others have come close, but usually shaft either DC or Boston, including January 2016. Actually January 22-24, 2016 is probably the closest we've come since, unless someone else remembers better than I do.

Jan 2016 should have actually snuck in ahead of March 1960 on NESIS but for some reason they didn't take into account some of the airport totals up here.  Most widespread 30" snowstorm I've ever witnessed.  Jan 2016 should have been NESIS 4.

They certainly are.  I just wonder how much so.

Some of my favorite accounts are how many times dolphins have saved humans from sharks, we just had one a few months ago where a marine biologist was saved from a shark when a dolphin went under her and carried her right back to her boat.

She has great photos from the Jan 16 blizzard in her winter photos section.

Wow, simply spectacular!

Yeah, she is a very talented photographer. Her photos turn up often in all the meteorology twitter feeds that I follow. Probably one of the best collections of NYC photos on the internet the last few years.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like that before- it makes me want to go to Central Park during a night time snowstorm to see how the building lights reflect off the clouds and how the snow looks like draped on trees near the area where that stream runs under the bridge.

I used to enjoy going into NYC to take photos years ago. Most of the time my photos are local these days. Digital has really revolutionized photography since the old darkroom days.

If we were 5 degrees colder with both storms the coast sees 30"+ total in a 5 day span.

I had just been thinking, if this was mid February, the coast would have been smoked.

Yeah sad thing is that we were torching in February.  Prime snowfall month for us.  I would have loved to flip flop the two months.

Pretty sure my dog can interpret model runs better than some of our esteemed posters...

The more I meet people, the more I love dogs.

I like most dogs better than I like most people.

About that 5 degrees colder thing,up here we would have hit our annual average in less than a week and probably would have had considerably less tree damage and avoided the power outages because the snow wouldn't have been so heavy.

National Weather Service New York NY

...Warmest February Day On Record in New York State...

Wednesday, February 21, 2018 was a remarkably warm day across the
Northeast portion of the country. So warm in fact, many daily high
temperature records were broken across the state of New York.
Multiple climate stations across the state reported record reports,
including four of the six first order climate stations in the New
York NY forecast area. At Central Park NY, LaGuardia NY, Newark NJ,
and Bridgeport CT, not only was the daily high temperature record
broken for that date, but these stations also broke the record for
high temperature for the month of February for their particular
location.

In addition to these local reports, it became apparent that this
particular day, February 21st 2018 was the warmest day at any
climate station in the entire state of New York.

Two local climate stations in the New York, NY forecast area
surpassed the state record for highest temperature for February. The
previous state record was 78 degrees set at Milbrook NY in 1985. On
February 21st, 2018, both LaGuardia NY and Shrub Oak NY reached 79
degrees, breaking the previous record.

These preliminary records may be matched or perhaps surpassed at
other New York climate sites, since observations are still being
researched and vetted.

All records are considered preliminary until made official by the
National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)
