KPIT ended with 6.3! We finally got a 6+ storm!! I think changing over 2 hours early really saved us. That early change absolutely saved us. The fact that I was seeing big flakes flying before midnight was huge. I took measurements all over the place. Really tough with the blowing snow. I came away with an average of 5.8 in. Solid storm. Best storm of the season thus far for me. Avoiding the obvious drifts and low spots measured a lot between 5 and 6 inches so going with a little over 5.5. Couple drifts of almost 10-12 (aided by snow blown from the roof) one of which was right in front of the patio door. By 00z I'll be ready to start tracking the next one Haven't paid much attention to the long range recently so hopefully it has some more chances. Gfs looked pretty good this morning with about .25 qpf. Could be a decent 2-4 clipper

I had 3 inches in spots and found higher spots over 8 so I'm revising to about 5.5 average. It wasn't our foot we wanted but it was fun to track. Thanks everyone, it seemed we had some really good posts and participation. Remember it is only mid January so plenty of time for a few more. Time to get some rest from being up all night and shoveling. Go steelers!

CoraopolisWx
Made it to midnight, so I missed the best rates. But overall it was a fun week tracking a real threat. Glad to see we officially reached warning criteria, I’ll admit I was going 50/50 before I crashed out. Lol

MikeB_01
Still thinking 1-3 for tomorrow night. Latest rands indicate some phasing with a LP off the coast. Sure looks to drain our clipper of its moisture. 12z NAM has 4-8 for Chicago and 1-2 for us.

The last couple years we haven’t even had many teases on big storms. I feel like we haven’t had many of the big Miller b storms where we get slop. It has been mostly coastal that we never have a chance on.

MikeB_01
From KPIT ".SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... The trailing cold front will slowly move through the area tonight as it out runs its upper level support. Light snow will overspread the entire region overnight. Models are hinting that a thin band of more enhanced snowfall could develop ahead of the cold front with the passage of an upper jet in the southwest flow aloft and increasing low-level moisture convergence. However, at this time, there is disagreement on where this band may develop. This is something that can be addressed once the hires models get a look at it." Depending on where that band sets up, I think we can end up on the high end of the snow totals. Just by looking at some of the models this morning, HRRR looks like it sets up well, while the Nam almost skips up entirely. Will be watching the Water vapor imagery today as well as t he 500 mb wind. If those can line up well, I think we see 3.

north pgh
Getting some light snow now. This looks to be from the first batch that the models had moving thru that I thought would be mostly Virga. I think it is a good sign for tonight as the frontal snow moves in. Yea definitely thought most of it would be virga. Especially with the 12z sounding, the air looked very dry and a lot of layers of the atmosphere. Rd9108
Definitely a good sign for tonight. Hopefully that means the column is moist enough to snow immediately. I just wish we could get some heavy snow in daylight. We keep getting these storms at night.
