6 Inch Plus Snowstorms by Decade

With the snow season potentially drawing near I thought I would go back and analyze 6" + snowstorms by decade to see if we really did have bigger snowstorms back when my dad was a kid...still a chance this current decade could be a top 4 snowiest on record...with a little luck!

Here are the Chester County 6" + Snowstorms ranked by snowiest decade:

1 - 1960's - 19

2 - 1910's - 19

3 - 1900's - 19

4 - 2000's - 16

5 - 1980's - 16

6 - 1930's - 16

7 - 1920's - 15

8 - This decade (partial) - 11

9 - 1950's - 11

10 - 1990's - 9

11 - 1970's - 9

12 - 1940's - 8

The long term cooperative at Glenmoore (elev. 453' and overtly displaying no missing data) reported these annual snow totals:

2013-14: 59.4"

2014-15: 37.9"

2015-16: 32.6"

2016-17: 18.0"

207' apparently makes quite a difference in SE PA...

Interesting close totals to mine at 560' adjusted a little higher

2014 - 65.7"

2015 - 52"

2016 - 35"

2017 - 20"

every 100' makes a difference?

I think it only makes a relative difference in those marginal early and late season events...many times I have seen a wet snow and 33 with little accumulation in Lionville PA at 500ft and then I head up to my house at 685ft and there is a couple inches that accumulated at 32....in classic big Noreasters....it just comes down to where the bands form etc.
