The EPS is shaping up to be a very cold Thanksgiving week. For an ensemble to see that kind of cold air 10 to 15 days out means if the warmer members get washed out the potential exists for a very cold Thanksgiving week. The pattern at 500 should evolve into a textbook pattern , whether it snows or not will come down to something well timed. It doesn't have too , but the period at the very least will be a BN one

So we get the +PNA/-AO block and a trough over the Northeast. Once the PNA goes positive watch for something to come out of the N Branch. A KU pattern at 500 is there minus a well timed SW. We know it's going to be blocky and cold but we can't force the rest.

CIK62
Agree EPS looks great for Thanksgiving period, but CFS shows my 'Next 8 Days' serial, will soon go slightly AN again---remainining that way till 2nd week of Dec. Next 45 days look +4 or +5 degrees now.

Interesting stat- our earliest 25 degree low was 11/4/1879! Earliest 24 degree low was 11/9/don't know what year. Think we can get to 24 or even lower? Also heard that the Euro shows a big sustained arctic shot lasting 1-2 weeks with a Greenland block for Thanksgiving week and the week after that right into the first days of December! Paragon
Don can you do one for NE PA too (Scranton, Mt Pocono, Allentown.) I am going to be there over the weekend. I see the NYC station will be colder than JFK Saturday morning (CAA?) and JFK will be colder than the NYC station on Sunday (radiational cooling?) Wow, Westhampton will be very close to single digits Sunday morning! I wonder if Toms River KMJX and Martha's Vineyard KMVY will be also- they are also great radiational cooling spots! snywx
Man that 12z GFS run was run out of metfans basement. By day 9 you can clearly see that massive block. I would be stunned if someone in the northeast doesn't cash in on this within the next 2 weeks.
SnoSki14
If you love storminess then that gfs run is for you, unfortunately it's a few weeks too early so we wouldn't be able to cash in on snowfall opportunities. Hopefully the blocking lasts a while.

mattinpa
I wouldn't rule out first flurries/snow showers even in the city areas. Not certain how long the block lasts, but seeing it is a nice surprise. Doesn't look like much actual fall weather this season, which makes the cold a shock to the system at first.
