It's closed from Nov 1 to March 31 every year no matter the weather. Saves the NPS from having to run people out to close it. I believe they also shut down the parkway from Cherokee to Sylva, correct? I think so.

The road climbs to 5700' and never closes..Take NC 143 West. You have an excellent chance of seeing snow Awesome, I’ll have to check that out!! 8 minutes ago, Tyler Penland said: If you wanna stay in GA you can always try 129 over Blood Mountain/Neel's Gap. They'll likely see some flurries tomorrow afternoon. Same goes for Richard Russell Scenic Highway from Helen to Blairsville. Brasstown Bald would be a great place if they keep the road open (they probably won't). I’m down to go to NC/TN but I love Helen!

SnoJoe
Event: Special Weather Statement Alert: ...FIRST SNOW OF THE SEASON FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS... Cold air behind a departing cold front along with an upper-level disturbance will bring the first snow of the season to the North Carolina mountains. Initial flurries this morning will give way to snow showers at the highest elevations, with snow levels gradually falling through the day as the colder air filters in. The highest elevations, those above 5000 feet in the Smokies, Blacks, and near Roan may see as much as 3-4 inches, but most areas above 2500 feet along the Tennessee state line will see only between 1/2 and 1 inch of snow. Met1985
Snowing throughout Haywood currently. This morning I went up to Fines Creek and Max Patch and they already had about a half inch of snow on the ground. Very windy, cold and winter like. The snow should continue to ramp up through the day into tonight. Keep a lookout fellas! Post lots of pics!

Tyler Penland
Went up to Beech Mountain and rode around for a while. Absolutely beautiful out there. Very little snow on the Parkway over Grandfather (sun was out, despite the flizzard).
Met1985
These snow squalls are really making there way in across the border. Most of the county is seeing moderate snow currently and very windy. Whiteout conditions closer to the border.
