andyhb
Note that the winds in Irma might lead to KBYX getting taken out. Pushing the upper bounds of what a WSR-88D was built to withstand (135-140 mph).
dan11295
We have to remember that if this weakens a bit by the time it gets to Tampa this is still a significant surge problem for Tampa Bay. Another very important question is when does the eyewall hit the coast. VDM was 929 mb with 14 kt winds, so 927-

40/70 Benchmark
Eye has really started to look more circular and symmetrical on RAD over the course of the past hour.
Windspeed
Irma is getting her Gulf Stream on. Every hour the eyewall sits over that deep 29° isotherm, the more opportunity for rapid deepening. Shear axis is still NW away from Irma's core but the northern outflow jet is on steriods. It's amazing how quickly the eyewall intensified the past six hours. We need Irma to gain forward momentum immediately and get the core out of this favorable environment for RI. Hopefully the southerly steering flow will ramp up ASAP.

Floydbuster
Very errie webcam from Key West. Quiet then gaining winds. Then quiet again. I imagine similar things happened in 1935.

Akeem the African Dream
Very heavy rain and lightning here in Juno. Not much wind. So loud outside it woke me up. My friend in St Lucie County texted me as well and told me parts of US 1 are under water and neighborhood streets are starting to flood. Upwards of 10 inches over the last few hours. It already completed an ERC just hours ago and now has a healthy inner core. They should be looking at the increasing velocities on radar and the recon data. This lady has no clue....I think she is basing off of the relatively ragged appearance of the eye on satellite right now.

Floydbuster
I google earthed the Keys to see if maybe the eyewall could hit less populated regions, but sadly there are just so many mobile homes and businesses all over the place. It won't be pretty.
