We have to remember that if this weakens a bit by the time it gets to Tampa this is still a significant surge problem for Tampa Bay. Another very important question is when does the eyewall hit the coast.

VDM was 929 mb with 14 kt winds, so 927-928

927.

Irma is getting her Gulf Stream on. Every hour the eyewall sits over that deep 29° isotherm, the more opportunity for rapid deepening. Shear axis is still NW away from Irma's core but the northern outflow jet is on steriods. It's amazing how quickly the eyewall intensified the past six hours. We need Irma to gain forward momentum immediately and get the core out of this favorable environment for RI. Hopefully the southerly steering flow will ramp up ASAP.

I don't get what they're trying to push. It already completed an ERC just hours ago and now has a healthy inner core. They should be looking at the increasing velocities on radar and the recon data.

This lady has no clue....I think she is basing off of the relatively ragged appearance of the eye on satellite right now.
