What's going to cause Irma to turn WEST?

Once the highly anticipated turn to the north in several days, what is going to then cause Irma to then turn back into GA/SC line as models are saying. I'm not seeing anything steering it toward that direction.

There is a shortwave trough that gets out ahead of Irma and blocks it.

Can you put a map up of the shortwave trough? I don't see it on the 500mb EURO or GFS model...

GOT IT!!! Thanks so much! Was not thinking that would have much interference with Irma that far away...

It is referred to as a cutoff upper level low pressure system, because it gets cut off, or left behind, by the jet stream. You can see below how the jet stream has lifted north but the low pressure still sits there, with no strong mechanism to move it out. So it sits there for a while and acts as a barrier to Irma moving northeast.399c77df124d54ddee9a41f147c7660d.jpg
