John1122
Got down to 35 this morning for a bit of a frosty start after a cool day yesterday.
Windspeed
Thought I would take advantage of the last day of unseasonable sunny warmth, get out and do a bit of hiking today. Headed up into SW VA to the App Trail and hit some high old USDA Forest Survey Markers. A little early morning chill gave away to a comfortable climb and t-shirt weather. 72° F with a cool breeze in the afternoon on the 22nd Day of October at 4,000 ft. Can't beat that! All in all a beautiful day on the trails. Thinking most of the Valley scores really nice totals tomorrow. Plenty of 2" being projected across the TVA Watershed, even up here in our neck of the woods. I'm more confident with all the mesoscales holding hands and lifting that surface low right up over the Smokies and Blue Ridge. Bring it!
Carvers Gap
Liking the rainy look on the radar this AM. Fall is beginning to be in the air. This will hurry the leaves along at the lower elevations. The winds at higher elevations will probably end the season above 5000' for whatever was left. These rainy days really bring out leaf color. Carvers Gap
Saw some pics on FB this AM of flooding in Roan Mountain yesterday. I will see if I can get permission to post a few. Water got crazy high in places. Here is a story from the JC Press, but doesn't quite encompass the scope of the impact. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Fire-EMS/2017/10/23/Doe-flooding-closes-Highway143-Rescue-Squad-braves-raging-river-to-rescue-stranded-motorist.html?ci=stream&lp=1&p=

John1122
Sitting on 38 degrees with moderate rain falling. Crossville is at 37 reporting unknown precip. It's not snowing but it sure does feel like winter.

Windspeed
Pretty heavy line training over the area. I have 1.29" and counting. Think I'll end up around 2" for the event. A real good steady soaker for sure.
Windspeed
Parts of Roan Mountain and Hampton have received upwards of 3" of rain this evening. The intensity of the rain has tapered off fortunately. Not quite as much as the 4" or so that fell last Monday. Hopefully the Doe River isn't flooding again in such a short succession. Jed33
Just had a brief light snow flurry here at the house. Mostly granular in form, but some regular size flakes. I must say this is the earliest I can ever remember seeing frozen precip. Even if it's just in the air.
John1122
Snow picked up this evening. Coated the ground above 2000ft. Roofs, and decks again below that. Been a wintry day. The first I remember in October not related to some kind of Hurricane since maybe 1995.

John1122
The colors were vivid here the last 10 days or so. I expect them to go quickly now with the rain over the next week. The maple in my yard is already bare.

Today I'm sitting at 46 as of now, probably going to top out around 48.
