michsnowfreak
September looks to start cool. Thinking the month ends up near to slightly below normal in temps here. And CFS does NOT show a warm September in the eastern Lakes.

Even the GFS had some 90s popping out at times during July. Either way, those days were just reserved for next Summer or the year after.
Jonger
The average high during that period is around ~75. The anomalies would yield upper 50's. We had mid 60's here last week during a warmer airmass.
RogueWaves
For sure. I don't personally have any use for cold in Sept, but if Augtober wx happened on the 24th, Septvember wx could be on the table as well. '76 and '89 should tell us that

UMB WX
Last sept 6th tied our max high for last summer.. We can roast in the first half of sept.. I imagine records are mid to upper 90's
Hoosier
Yeah, first half of September acts more like an extension of summer a lot of times (and it's still technically summer of course). I would guess that the records are well into the 90s and in some cases over 100 everywhere except maybe the far northern tier.

Snowstorms
Down to 47.8F currently with a forecasted low of 41F. Definitely feels like Fall out there. High temperature tomorrow is forecasted to be around 66F.

Hoosier
Sort of an interesting "disconnect" on the models between the mid levels and surface out in the extended. I mean, look at that 500 mb ridge >588 with widespread heights >582 elsewhere. That should be a fairly warm pattern for September everywhere, right? Not really, unless you are farther north/west. Something we are likely to see as per usual with hurricanes that approach the US is the pattern becoming fairly stagnant for a while.
rainsucks
Really unlucky if that happens. What could have been a blowtorch month might only end up being slightly warmer than normal because of a stupid cat 5 hurricane.
cyclone77
Classic late summer constipated weather pattern. This is my least favorite time of year as a weather weenie. Very nice for outdoor activities though.
cyclone77
46 degrees right now. Coolest temp of the season so far. Rochelle is at 39.
michsnowfreak
Chilly start to September. The month is primed to finish colder than normal. I've seen several articles about a much earlier than normal color change. We shall see!
Hoosier
Had low 40s here.
IWXwx
Only down to 50° here this morning. We will definitely be tagging some 40's mid week, may even low to mid-40's.
Chambana
KCMI had a low of 46, while my mother 4 miles south in rural champaign had a low of 44. Bought a brand new car over the summer, first time using the heated seats.

cyclone77
Been noticing the last few days at how unusually green the corn crop is still. Usually by now it's mostly brown, or at least halfway browned up. The majority of the fields I pass by are almost entirely still green like in late July. Wondering if it's from the lack of heat throughout August.
IWXwx
OLD record tied this morning at SBN RECORD EVENT REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA 0421 PM EDT SAT SEP 02 2017 ...RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE SET AT SOUTH BEND... Powerball
If there's anything to look forward to in this otherwise blah-looking month, it's going to be the marginal severe weather threat on Monday. At least the mid-level lapse rates are going to be halfway decent.

hlcater
I hate the look of the next 10+ days around here. I may be paranoid, but the complete lack of precip through most of the period concerns me. Not really in the mood for drought conditions to expand into E IA. Although September usually seems fairly dry, so maybe climo will mitigate some of the effects of this dryer spell.
