This will be the 13th time out of 1,761 months of records that Chicago has had 2 days or less of measurable precipitation in a calendar month.  That comes out to about 0.7% of months.  The last time it happened was also in September (2004).

(Gotta praise the search capabilities on NOWData.  It only took about 2 minutes to research that lol)

As previously mentioned, this Sept was tied for the 4th driest on record for Chicago...

Driest September's On Record:
1. 0.01" - 1979
2. 0.26" - 2004
3. 0.31" - 1940
4. 0.32" - 2017
4. 0.32" - 1891
6. 0.46" - 1956
7. 0.49" - 1939
8. 0.74" - 1871
9. 0.77" - 1962
10. 0.83" - 1954

Good find on that stat. Will be using it in a graphic we're sharing on social media today and included in September 2017 review top news story.
