hawkeye_wx
An outflow boundary from the central Iowa storms pushed through this evening, leading to numerous cells popping just behind it. It poured rain here for the first time in several weeks, and a bit of lightning came with it. I finished with 0.61". Woo! I didn't expect anything, so I didn't bother cleaning the leaves out of the gutters. They quickly overflowed.
cyclone77
Unless we can get lucky with a shower tomorrow we're going to finish September with a paltry 0.67".
hawkeye_wx
My rain total is 0.64", which boosts my September total to 1.03".
wisconsinwx
What a warm last several days it's been. I did go golfing on Sunday, but besides that, I mostly cooped myself up inside (heat and allergies are not ideal for this time of year). Luckily though, we finished off with a heavy downpour (and thunder a bit south of here), so as bad as the drought was starting to get, this will help a little (MKE almost reported half an inch of rain in a short period of time, not the best for soaking in, but it's something). Looking forward to some ideal fall weather the next several days, comfortably crisp.

Just by virtue of the fact that we'll be dealing with a lower sun angle (and even less evapotranspiration), the bolded is guaranteed to be the case. cyclone77
Down to 63/57 with a fresh northwest breeze. Have enjoyed the unusual heat, but this brief taste of cooler weather is pretty nice.

rainsucks
Easily would have been the warmest Sept on record if the first week had been at least average. The fact that the first 10 days were as cool as they were didn't even make much sense given the teleconnections at the time, but whatever.

Chinook
In a rather weird scenario, the GFS seems to be indicating a chance for lake-based rain showers on Lakes Erie and Huron after the low pressure passes on Friday. That would be strange to see lake effect at 60-65F and not 32F.

It would be more unusual to get it in the middle of summer as it's more difficult to get the proper temperature differential between the air and water. weatherbo
Fall is back! Yesterday's high was 54, with off and on scattered showers then sun. Cloudy and 42 this morning...Lake effect rain showers in the 'cast later today through tomorrow morning. Woke up during the night to see the northern lights on display Low clouds off the lake interacting with the lights and the now partially bare tree tops, gave them a very autumnal, halloween'ish look. Very typical up and down fall weather in the forecast.
Chambana
Springfield, Illinois will finish with its second driest month on record, 0.01” of rain for the entire month of September. Records go back to 1879, so that’s pretty damn impressive.

cyclone77
^Yeah it's fairly brown here as well. It greened up a bit from that little rain we had a week or so ago, but didn't last long. The leaves from the elm and hackberry trees are starting to cover the lawns up now, so it's not as noticeable lol.
wisconsinwx
I'm sure some of you caught that brief but solid garden variety storm that moved through Green Bay. Originally this front looked like a dry one for most locales involved, but it's got some potency.
weatherbo
Wet and blustery this morning with north flow lake rain, which has been moderate at times overnight and this morning. Have picked up .4" so far. 52 the expected high. The average high is 60 for these parts, so still a lot of nice weather to go, but def creeping deeper into fall. Hoosier
The September finish at ORD is going to be almost spot on with last September. Both around +5F. Even this recent cooler regime has not done anything to bring the departure down, mainly due to mild nights.
cyclone77
Will finish Sep with 5 days of 90+ here, with 93 being the highest. MLI will finish with 6 days 90+, and 94 being the highest. MLI almost 2" more rain than here with 2.39".
