Typhoon Tip
Folks, may or may not be aware (apologies) but Irma has just broken what I suspect could be a list of records... This makes Irma the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic basin outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in the NHC records.

Sub 900mb could happen under ideal conditions though. The WC has said that this is now the strongest storm in the Atlantic basin in recorded history. I presume they are referring to the wind speed of 180 mph and not the pressure reading, but they didn't say.

Those are 'sections' ... New England = SNE, CNE, and NNE, but it's all just New England - think of it that way

Typhoon Tip
it always strikes me ...in a weird way... we're looking at these satellite images of an insidious eye with it's rampart of serrated cogs whirling head long at Antigua and Barbuda island like that and someone walking, talking, ... breathing ...carrying about their island agenda, has no idea they are going to be dead in 6 hours. there's something strangely prophetic about that experience. Typhoon Tip
technically ...the 12z GFS never fully makes landfall... it's gone back to turning it on a hair-ping due N and has the western eye-wall rollin' up the shore all the way to the real landfall in S. Carolinas.
