Chinook
At this point, you start wondering if it is maybe really dry ground right in the STL metro area, or measurement bias. My bet is on really dry ground. Back more than a week ago, the dew point was about 60-65 when they hit 102 or 103, so there was less water vapor. Actually, I'm not really sure why water vapor (like higher PWs or higher dew points) would cut back on the high temperature of the day. Does the vapor have a higher heat capacity than O2 and N2? Airport is right in the middle of a very urban area, with quite a bit of pavement around including the actual airport. Doesn't look like much in the way of vegetation/trees around the airport. I'd be curious as to where exactly they located their equipment. There's so much pavement around that no matter where they placed it pavement isn't going to be very far away. Chinook
Southeast Nebraska may have had a realistic 7500- 8000 J/kg of CAPE when Beatrice NE had 92/79 today, 97/79 measured in nearby Kansas.
Chicago Storm
Out of this sub-forum, but...It was 97/82/122 at MYZ earlier. Also, it's currently 101/77/118 at FOE.

Just south of there in Topeka they had a pretty beefy sounding. Almost 8000J/kg surface cape.
