.65 so far. This is a huge win and much needed from an environmental standpoint. Things were dire. Ants were trying to get in the house, and this was a first since I built this home 6 years ago. Another slug poised to slide in. Good luck up north.

Short Term Forecast
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC
919 PM EDT WED JUL 5 2017

MDZ016-060200-
Charles-
919 PM EDT WED JUL 5 2017

...HEAVY SHOWERS WILL AFFECT WEST CENTRAL CHARLES COUNTY...

At 918 PM EDT, heavy showers were located near Nanjemoy Creek,
moving north at 15 mph.

Heavy rainfall of 3 to 4 inches are expected within 1 to 2
hours. Cloud to ground lightning is possible as well.

Locations impacted include...
Ironsides, Pisgah and Welcome.

Locally heavy rainfall may cause ponding of water on roadways and
cause small streams to go out of their banks. Be alert for the
potential of standing water and hydroplaning.

Is there a drought? I'm no scientist but I was at a swim meet and it rained at least an inch here. Massive puddles and cups filled up at least an inch high. More rain and mud then we ever wanted.

Yup. Where I live I've missed pretty much everything. Got a pitty shower last evening as the flooding rain that fell all around me moved away. There's patches of bone dry ground among the lush rainy areas.

Great news about the horses. Cool local event.

My last post of the night. Just hit the 1 inch mark!!! Pouring. Sump pump actually just kicked on for the first time this summer. Surprising. We are a RAIN TOWN!! Good night. Happy bday 007.

Well, the rain sure did NOT miss us tonight! I need local corroboration on this, but it appears I might have 1.2 inches so far. There has been light rain and occasionally moderate rain ever since 5pm Weds. There have been three episodes of pretty heavy rain - one at 630pm, one at 9pm and one at 1135pm. NWS has us under 70 percent pops tonight and 90 PERCENT for Thursday.

I tried to time the heavy rain so i could enjoy a jebwalk. Well, I got nailed by the 1130pm heavy rain episode. Well, I wanted rain, I got it - in spades lmao.

What we experienced Wednesday afternoon/evening was only the beginning.........

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
At 345 AM objective analysis indicates quasi-stationary frontal
boundary draped just to the SW of the forecast area...with upper
low/vort max near southern Illinois. Area of ongoing showers
continues to the NE of the boundary in an region of upper-level
divergence out ahead of vort max. Radar observations indicate best
coverage/intensity across north Central VA moving into the southern
DC suburbs...with mainly light rain elsewhere.

High resolution guidance beginning to converge on heaviest rainfall
setting up from now through late morning/midday between Loudoun and
DC (perhaps into south central MD) south to Culpeper and Stafford.
Latest radar trends support this as echoes have been increasing
over this area during the last 30 minutes. Thus, we have
increasing concern of at least localized flooding across this
area through midday as 850 mb moisture transport is maximized in
an area of anomalously high PWATs (2+ inches)...which will lead
to torrential rainfall rates. Storm motions near 10 mph so far
have helped...thus, held off (for now) on a Flash Flood Watch.
Though, we will certainly be watching how this area of
precipitation evolves as FF ingredients are certainly favorable
across this area. Regardless of flash flooding potential...
moderate- to-heavy rainfall will certainly complicate the
morning commute across parts of the area.

Expect isolated-to-scattered redevelopment of showers and
thunderstorms by afternoon near the frontal boundary...which by that
time should have made some northeastward progress into the area. A
few stronger storms are possible near and south of DC this afternoon
if airmass can sufficiently recover. Gusty winds are the primary
threat as water loading enhances downward momentum transfer.

AS of 425am I observed thunder and lightning in Dale City along with steady light to moderate rain.

Some communities are going to get some serious rain in the next 8 to 12 hours. I am happy with my 1.3 inches so far. I have got water standing on my lawn from LIGHT RAIN RATES, which is very good news from the standpoint of grass regrowth.

I'll gladly take whatever additional rain I can get, lol.

As of 507am, rain is becoming heavier as some 50 dbZ radar returns start to edge over my backyard, lol. I'm lovin' it!!!

I'm requesting some corroboration of rain amounts in the local Dale City region, I am eyeballing my rain bucket, which appears to have over 2 inches of rain in it, can anyone verify in the Dale City region? Its been raining all night and heavily in the past 90 minutes.

We've got to have had at least 2+ inches over the past two days in Arlington. I'd also love some corroboration, because I have no scientific method of vertifying that in my own backyard. It's been pouring here this morning since 3:30.

If YOU have 2 plus, I just might be pushing three, lol.

I'll be cautious and just call it 2 for now, til I get more verification.

Either way, we got pounded for one hell of a resplendent WIN!!!!!!

Rain just got REAL heavy, lol

It's very possible I'm overeastimating the amount of rain. But it's been dumping for hours, and I don't even want to talk about the muddy hell that yesterday was!

What parts of the region have not yet gotten any beneficial rain? Those are the areas we need to pull for tomorrow.

Anne Arundel.

After reading the jubilant posts on this thread, I see we got screwed for yesterday. Was just starting to get steady light to moderate rainfall on the drive to work this morning. Electric gauge had 0.02; I didn't go out to the real gauge, but it looks about the same.

OTOH, we had a birthday in the family, so ate supper at a waterfront joint in Galesville, out on their dock/deck. Very nice, and rain would have driven us indoors. If fact, at the same time we were putting up the patio umbrella for shade, most of the DMV was getting clobbered.

Yay, weather.
