Heat is completely worthless to me. All days like today do for me is make me daydream about the first September front that ushers in cool dry continental air with mid 50 lows and deep blue skies with upper 50's dews. Should happen within 60 days.

Likewise. I left Louisiana to get AWAY from the heat.

But I'm quickly learning something that I didn't realize when I moved up here... While Louisiana is hotter, and Louisiana is more humid, at least Louisiana has daily rain storms to break the heat in the summer. Here... well, I have realized that is not the case.

91 at the 10am ob.  The 90 degree rule can be ok, but DCA's river location makes it really iffy.  Zwyts had a good spreadsheet a few years back that showed the correlation.  It wasn't great.

91.1 at home

Another useful metric for heat is measuring the Camp David (KRSP) and Site R (KRYT) stations.  Both sides are in very rural locations that typically do not get hot during the summer.  If they manage to get above the 90 - 92 range then it's legit heat regionwide.

Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC
1048 AM EDT Thu Jul 20 2017

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

12Z IAD sounding came in significantly warmer aloft than 24 hrs
ago with a 4 deg rise at 500 mb with an inversion evident above
that level which should suppress deep convection completely, so
have removed the slight chance of thunder that we had. At low
levels, global models indicate a 4C deg rise at 850 mb by day`s
end and 12Z IAD sounding also showed an increase in 0-6km mean
flow (300/09kt) which is double the strength than yesterday.
This will result in temperatures hitting the century mark in a
few places or perhaps a deg or two above 100F. Dewpoints will
mix out to the mid 60s, but still with temps around 100F heat
indices will max out around 105. Criteria west of the Blue Ridge
is 5 degs lower at 100 this should be met easily at places like
Hagerstown, Martinsburg, Cumberland and Winchester. New heat
advisories have been issued for these areas.

The good thing is once the heat breaks down next week, the UL pattern looks fairly stable. I wouldn't say we can expect extended "cool" summer weather or anything. Just that the current pattern looks to burn out and be replaced with half decent summer weather if you don't like needing a shower after getting the mail or losing half your body weight walking for 30 minutes.

Its not too bad out, as long as you don't move.

Terrible out.  Did a 6 mile trail run this morning and even that didn't come close to being pleasant.  Was like 81/75 when I set out at 6am.  Then took my daughter to the zoo for like 2-3 hours.  Drank like 3 liters of water and still haven't peed hahaha.
