It was the only time we used air conditioning growing up in the row houses of Philadelphia.  My parents hated air conditioning for some reason so to have them get a window unit left a distinct impression in my memory.

On that thought, I wonder if it stormed that day?...

The issue with extended heat, particularly nighttime lows, is in the inner cities.  Low/fixed income folks don't have access to AC.  This was also before emergency management really took off so the concept of working to extend library hours as a cooling center or open more pools was not in the wheelhouse of many city officials (Chicago, DC, Atlanta, Philly, Pittsburgh).  This resulted in a large number of heat related deaths and visits to ERs.  For awhile, Philly 911 was on a sveral minute wait because so many people were taxing the EMS system.  It's one of the reason why the Kalkstein Method was developed (http://www.climateknowledge.org/heat_waves/Doc1002_Kalkstein_Philadelphia_Heat_Warning_BAMS_1996.pdf).

Which is why we can't BS with heat advisories. Heat related illnesses are real and can happen to anyone quickly. You don't need to be out in a 105 HI for three consecutive hours to get yourself killed..

Heat Warnings no doubt because you don't escape anything even late at night.

We seem to bust low on temps at the start of heat waves and somehow bust high on the final day of late.  Wouldn't surprise me if at least DC/Arlington and Baltimore City warrant a heat advisory today.

Reading the 10:30AM LWX AFD update, they seem to be passing on it and sticking with LAMP

The cloud cover/storm initiation balance will also impact the
temperature forecast. Latest LAMP supports going forecast in the
upper 80s to mid 90s, a little cooler than yesterday. This
keeps heat indices in the 95-103 range, but slight differences
in temperatures or dew points could nudge values into advisory
territory. Overnight temperatures will be slow to cool, with 70s
still likely for most locations east of the Blue Ridge.

DP is 79 at DCA at 10:15 AM

Yoda - be careful with the 5 minute output.  For some reason, there are rounding and conversion problems that sometimes bump the temp up or down by a degree.  The 79s could really be 78.  Look around the ob time - the 5 min outputs were all 79s, but the ob was 78.

Man am I glad this front is coming as we have an outdoor wedding from noon to 5pm tomorrow.  Today's weather would have been brutal.

I would be ecstatic to get 0.5 of rain, but I'm not too hopeful for that.  Jealous of the rain Ohio and PA have had the last few days.

The heat has been great for our squash and melons, particularly the nighttime lows to keep soil temps up.

That Dover Td seems way too high...probably the reason for the errant spike in CAPE and supercell composite # for Delmarva

Perhaps, but SPC in their 1630 OTLK mentioned poss of an isolated tor or two in that area due to the WF
