Dropped down to 45F, now up through the low 50s as the steam starts dissipating off the ponds. There are definitely chilly June mornings sometimes but mid-40s is remarkable.

Nice. Only got to 50 here, KMGJ hit 49.  Between the river, the pond/swampy area and a stream my theory is that there's too much moisture in the air to bottom out like I can in winter when there's no vegetation around. Either way tis a delightful morn.

This June will go down as one of the most extreme maximum temperature swings within about a week at LGA on record. The 101 high tied for the #1 monthly max for June. While the high of 59 a week earlier was the #4 coolest daily max. Combine this with the Cindy tropical remnants and it made June an interesting weather month.

Yep chilly one this morning, station down the hill from me got down to 52. Nice.

I was up in Pittsfield MA yesterday afternoon and boy that was some t-storm that hit there. Lots of lightning, thunder, super heavy rain and it dropped the temp easily 15* in a few minutes.  They always seem to get the good stuff when I'm there.

one of my first memories of hot weather was on 6/14/1956...I was seven and remember walking with my mother by the subway...There was a transit strike that day I think...temperature hit 99 in Central Park...I looked up the local climate data for June 56 and it was quite cool before and after the heat wave...That was the hottest day of 1956...July 56 was very cool...

My top June weather events were Agnes in 72 and the flash flood in 95. Agnes flooded us out of our basement apartment for about a week. The 95 flash flood was my personal record for rainfall in under 2 hours of 5.15".

when I started following the weather and taking notes in the early 1960's it seemed June always had some hot days...1963 had a torrid heat wave the last week of June...98 on July 1st...1964 was 99 on June 30th after other 90+ days the week before...1965 had it's hottest day the last week in June...1966 reached 101 the last week in June...

I don't remember details but I do remember riding my bike in hub deep water for blocks at a time by my house in Oceanside that summer. It must've been after Agnes.

Agnes was the storm that got me interested in the weather. The drain outside our basement apartment door got clogged and several feet off water built up right against it at the bottom of the stairs. Pretty soon the water was flowing under the door into the apartment. We quickly had 3-6 inches of water throughout the apartment ruining all the rugs and furniture that got soaked. We were out of the place for about a week while it dried out. My family got me a NOAA weather radio after that and I started watching the nightly TV weather reports. We moved out of that place a year later and never took a Long Beach basement apartment again.

my brother used to be married to a girl from Long Beach...her uncle owned Randazzo's in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn...their house had to be hit hard by Sandy being a block from the water...it must have been hit hard in 1893 when Hogs Island disappeared...Two storms in a week that year...

There were a few higher spots on the Long Beach barrier island that fared better than others during Sandy. Parts of the Presidents streets neighborhood only had about 6 inches of water over the curb. So houses build on a foundation didn't get any flooding inside. But step down or sloped driveway houses got flooded. Many other parts of Long Beach had 2-5 feet of water depending on elevation. The ocean front section of Pt. Lookout actually stayed mostly dry as it's the highest part of the barrier island.

Interesting weather year so far with more 60 degree days in February than 90 degree days in June. I wonder how many times this has happened?

I forgot about last year and that makes it even more unique two years in a row for LGA.

Feb 2017...6 days of 60 or higher...ties 2nd place most Feb 60's

Jun 2017...3 days of 90 or higher so far

Feb 2016....6 days......ties 2nd place again

Jun 2016....1 day
