Not a cloud in the sky at the beach but low fast moving clouds at my house in wantagh. They seemed to appear crossing the bay This happens a lot during the summer. Sometimes, the low marine layer clouds do not start to form until you are about a mile inland. In those situations, I think the heat of the land causes a little lift and those clouds form. NJwx85
Is there a marine layer today over Long Island? It's perfectly clear here but looking down Rt. 17 towards the city I could see what looked like stratus and a building cloud deck.

NJwx85
By tonight rains from Tropical Storm Cindy in the Gulf will be as far Northeast as the 40/70 benchmark. Truly an amazing plume of moisture.

Drz1111
I'm surprised there isn't a marginal risk for tomorrow for the OKX area. Seems like all the CAMs initiate and the flow is pretty zippy in the mid-levels. I'd expect isolated severe wind, maybe even a few small hail stones here or there given that that it gets cool pretty quickly upstairs.

pazzo83
Actually it seems that most of the all time highs in that area occur in June - I guess because of the July/Aug monsoon.

You have to wonder what kind of airmass led to the 134F in Death Valley some 114 years ago, or if there were some QC issues with that measurement. They're at 121F now at 2pm PDT. Yesterday's max of 124F occurred between 4 & 5pm (one would guess, both had readings of 124), so they've got a ways to go. Needles, CA (KEED) is already at 122F. Cfa
I'm grateful that the temp difference between the coast and inland isn't nearly as great here. Long Island and the Jersey Shore would suck.

pazzo83
Furnace Creek is at 126 as of 4pm PDT. Probably approaching their max, I've seen some of the PWSs around there hit near 130.
