The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
  Nash County in central North Carolina...

* Until 715 PM EDT

* At 641 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
  was located 7 miles northeast of Bailey, or 7 miles southwest of
  Nashville, moving north at 35 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree
           damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
  Rocky Mount, Nashville, Dortches, Red Oak, Spring Hope, Whitakers,
  Castalia, Battleboro, Aventon and Tar River Reservoir.

Drove by tornado damage this afternoon on I40 near the I77 interchange in Statesville. About 5 miles east of there, trees were snapped in half and laying on the eastbound lanes as I was traveling west. Half a dozen state troopers were on the seen trying to clear the debris from the roadway. Lots of trees snapped in half in a pretty obvious path leading up to and then crossing the interstate. Pretty amazing what a tornado can do.

Same storm that was rapidly going tornadic that downed some trees and power lines about 4 miles NW of me,moved east of Troutman/Statesville.That storm blew up quickly with some wicked lightning/rotation I got some strong winds off the east side of it.
