Ontario and se MI, later n OH likely to see scattered severe storms and F1 tornado potential from developing Lake Huron squall line linking to developing cold front across Lake Michigan.  London to Hamilton ON north to Stratford to Orangeville suggested tornado watch box (19z-22z).

The storms in SON totally missed and developed to my east and a tad south. There was some action north of TO where hail occurred. I didn't know that I wouldn't receive any rain or storm at all, it was sunny the whole way through to the cold front (rare). The 2/3 day forecast from TWN had no storms but showed some this morning.

Definitely a bit interested in Saturday, even with some issues (not really liking those upper level winds).  The area near the warm front with backed flow/enhanced low level shear may be worth watching.

New Tstorm warning issued by LSX for the Litchfield, IL area--including wind gusts of 80 mph in this storm.

If this keeps up SPC needs to issue a new watch that includes the ILX CWA--with Springfield, Decatur, Champaign definitely included.

Guess that brings it up to 19 for 2017.  We can't compete with you guys though when it comes to major winter storms.  You've had some beauts the past few winters.

I'm always willing to trade a major winter storm for a severe outbreak.

For Saturday, there is enough of signal there to keep me interested. SREF has a little bullseye in IL. Lapse rates aren't forecast to be all that great which could limit CAPE, but the rest of the set up looks decent.

Saw on IWX twitter this morning that they are sending a survey team to Paulding County, OH this afternoon. They were warned two or three different times yesterday, and it sounds like one of the storms caused significant damage throughout the county. So much so that they are still under a state of emergency, which they issued last night. Rumors of EF0 tornado among local outlets. I've heard reports of mainly tree and power line damage, but it must be heavy enough for IWX to send a team. I'm curious to see what they find, as I did not see much in the way of velocity signatures on radar last night.

EDIT: Now seeing a barn was destroyed at the intersection of County Road 133 and Co. Hwy 224, about 3 mi east of the town of Cecil, OH, with debris scattered 0.5-1mi away from the site. Likely where they are headed.

Ohio damages were straight-line winds (2 paths), although surveyors seemed to hedge their bets on the second path.

Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Northern Indiana
454 PM EDT Fri May 19 2017 /354 PM CDT Fri May 19 2017/

...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 05/18/17 THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENT...

.OVERVIEW...National Weather Service and Emergency Management
officials surveyed damage in Paulding County. Investigation of the
damage indicates straight line winds were the likely cause of the
damage. Details follow.

.Haviland Ohio Thunderstorm Wind 1...

Peak wind /E/: 80-85 mph
Path length /Statute/: 2 miles
Path width /Maximum/: 50 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start date: May 18 2017
Start time: 525 pm EDT
Start location: 2.3 WSW Haviland
Start Lat/Lon: 41.01451/-84.6317

End date: May 18 2017
End time: 527 pm EDT
End location: 0.9 SW Haviland
End lat/lon: 41.00578/-84.59032

SURVEY_SUMMARY: Two swaths of wind damage were noted from separate
thunderstorms west of Haviland. The first storm snapped a couple
dozen power poles near the ground from northwest of Haviland to
west of Haviland along County Road 107. A few smaller tree limbs
were also blown down. A second swath caused significant damage to
a large pole barn southwest of the intersection of State Route 114
and County Road 87. Debris was carried to the southeast for
roughly 2 miles across open fields. Several power poles were also
snapped towards the end of the downburst. Along County Road 107,
between 70 and 80 power poles were snapped by strong winds. Winds
are estimated at between 80 to 85 mph.

.Cecil Ohio Thunderstorm Wind 2...

Peak wind /E/: 65-70 mph
Path length /Statute/: 1 miles
Path width /Maximum/: 25 yards
Fatalities: 0
Injuries: 0

Start date: May 18 2017
Start time: 429 pm EDT
Start location: 3.5 E Cecil
Start Lat/Lon: 41.22438/-84.51582

End date: May 18 2017
End time: 431 pm EDT
End location: 4.5 E Cecil
End lat/lon: 41.22498/-84.49610

SURVEY_SUMMARY: Damage was found along a roughly one mile path of
isolated damage starting near the intersection of County Road 224
and 133. A older pole barn was impacted by the winds, causing it
fall onto itself and mainly roofing debris being carried roughly a
third of a mile. Several 2 by 4 boards were found embedded in the
ground in various directions. Along this same path a garage door
was pushed in with a few pieces of roofing thrown east to
northwest of the intersection of County Roads 224 and 139. A 5th
wheel trailer was rolled several times, landing in a pond. Near
the intersection of County Roads 218 and 133 2 garage doors were
pushed in. One of the buildings had its north and south walls
pushed outward.

While the boards in the ground, as well as damage to structures
south of the destroyed barn may suggest some weak rotation,
damage in the area was not conclusive enough to classify a small
area of damage as possibly tornadic. Data will continue to be
reviewed.

We wish to thank Emergency Management officials in Paulding and
Van Wert Counties for their help with the surveys.

Lol. I just posted the same thing in the discussion thread. I will be in New Castle in the morning and heading back north mid afternoon. Maybe I can catch something on the way back.

DVN confirmed 2 more tornadoes today, which brings them up to 7 for the event, and 21 for 2017.  After seeing the EF-0 confirmed south of Muscatine I reviewed my pics.  Shot this out the windshield at 5:01 near Bluegrass looking southwest on route 61, which was 3 minutes prior to the brief touchdown per DVN.  Sorry for the crappy quality lol

Really? I was like 5 miles south of it at that point and saw nothing, not even a funnel. After it started to pass Muscatine the storm went to LP mode, so little/no potential for tornadoes there.

Yeah we didn't see anything either, although we were fairly far away as you can see in the pictures.  Right after the latest pic I posted we lost sight of the meso as we went through an area with trees, etc.  More than likely it was probably a brief ground-level "spin up" with little if any actual funnel visible to the naked eye.  In other words, very wussy lol.

HRRR not as favorable and it was more accurate with the prior system....although 70 dews are near EVV at this time moving ne and a t storm is approaching me from the sw.  Salem IN down in Washington County got over 7 inches of rain in a few hours last night with serious flash flooding.   WTHR has had info and photos.  With the way storms are rapidly moving ne it is possible a good chunk of IN could get into the warm sector this afternoon and destabilize before the cold front comes through later on with some evening t storms.
