SPC really needs to start following this risk guidelines with probabilities. Like there shouldn't be a non-PDS for a high risk for a 50/30 for a 5% tornado risk. iowahawkeyedave Posted May 18, 2017 Share Posted May 18, 2017 Agree, it is quite odd that the watch isn't a PDS watch in southern Kansas, considering the MD put out just an hour ago mentions a few stronger tornadoes. Wonder what changed to make the SPC go with just 70/40 tornado probabilities on the watch. Edit: Apparently SPC made an error on the watch. OceanStWx Posted May 18, 2017 Share Posted May 18, 2017 Regarding PDS vs. non-PDS: MCDs are used as a collaboration tool. SPC issues one prompting the affected WFOs to prepare for a conference call about a watch. It is possible the local WFOs provided arguments for no PDS that SPC agreed with.
