Cold Rain
^ Thanks for the tips, guys! We just have to keep our fingers crossed that it's not cloudy! NSFY, I'll let you know if we do indeed head up that way. Would love to meet up, if it's possible.

tellicowx1
Im trying to find a good spot to capture the shadow moving across the landscape...so I'm probably heading to the Smokies. Sucks that the tower on Clingman is off limits.I live in Tellico Plains here in southeast TN...we are close to dead center on the track and at the base of the Cheohala Skyway....Gatlingburg/Pigeon Forge will barely be on the edge of the path. If you are coming to East TN, I suggest one of the overlooks on the Cheohala Skyway. NASA is planning on having a team up there to film the shadow crossing the valley. CAD_Wedge_NC
Will probably take the family and head down I-85 toward the Greenville area, find a good spot to exit, and just watch it unfold. I too remember the eclipse of 1970, and I was only 5 years old. Wouldn't miss it...

Sounds like a few folls ills are headed to the Greenville area. We should organize something

Hoosier
Great American eclipse indeed. You have to go back to the year 436 to find the last total solar eclipse that only occurred in the U.S. mainland and no other area of land.

a5ehren
I've got a room in Helen, GA the night before and after. They're closer to the edge of the totality path, but still 100 seconds or so. Already working on ideas for 2024, too: https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogle/SEgoogle2001/SE2024Apr08Tgoogle.html

I've taken my family camping there numerous times in the past. Looks just like the ocean but it's fresh water. But it's hard to get reservations during normal years; for a total eclipse you better be ready at midnight the day (6 months or 1 year out) you can make reservations. https://parks.ny.gov/parks/36/details.aspx
