Interesting how the debris signature shows up a few scans later east of where it was reported to have touched down. That's 3 tornadoes within 10 miles of us since early March. Expand Well obviously, one's opinion of a month can be formed based on lot more than just the average temperature. Besides the fact that it's below normal temperature-wise, it's been a cloudier month than normal, there's been a below number of days with t'storms (never mind severe weather), above average rainfall and the only days with a positive departure greater than 5*C were the days with temps in the upper 80s. hawkeye_wx Posted May 27, 2017 Share Posted May 27, 2017 The morning MCS dried up over central Iowa, but the remnant disturbance re-fired this evening and dropped another 0.30" on my yard. I've received measurable rain on 8 of the last 11 days. We aren't getting a ton of rain (4.53" in May), but we can't shake the constant clouds and dampness. Had a tornado warned cell yesterday (saw nothing) and a funnel cloud just our our northwest on an unwarned storm (video link below) Thanks to Matt Leach for posting on his Facebook page. Matt posts here occasionally, especially during winter storms. I got to the area 5 minutes after it dissipated, story of my life lol . Expand Yesterday was OK here, definitely more summer-like. It was humid and we managed a high of 78*F. We got screwed though in almost every direction by the "strong" t'storms. Has to be absolutely insufferable. If the wind would just change direction and stop blowing in off of the gulf their dews would probably crash a good 40-50 degrees. Expand Make that a high of 81*F. Interestingly enough, with the exception of 2013 (in which the high barely got above 60*F), every Memorial Day since 2010 has featured a high of 80*F or higher. After bottoming out at 35F on 5/8 and maxing out at 88F on 5/17, the final half of the month was fairly close to average which slowly nudged the average to the positive side.
