After the rains from the past few days, I was curious about how rainfall numbers were looking around region, so I checked on the CoCoRaHS data for the various New England States. In VT there are already 20 stations reporting over 6 inches of liquid for the month of June (generally in the Greens as you’d expect) whereas the next closest state was NH, with 4 stations over 6 inches, and most of the states either have 1 or 0 stations hitting that mark. It’s not necessarily an objective areal analysis, but the number of stations per state is roughly 90 or more aside from RI, so it certainly shows a trend. It really just feels like things are catching back up to average in the Greens, although I did hear Roger Hill mention this morning that there were a number of stations around here that are 20-25% ahead of average. At our site, rainfall for the month is at 6.41”, but that still leaves about an inch to go to hit the average in my CoCoRaHS data (June seems to be our wettest month here). There do appear to be some rainfall chances this week, so perhaps we’ll end up somewhere around that average.
dendrite
I think I had 8.05" for May and I'm around 4.35" or something for June so far...so 12-12.5" of rain since 5/1. I'm glad we finally "missed" a system.

After 8 straight months of near- to above-average precip (including 4.97" last month), June has seen the serious rain skip past my area - 1.57" to date, so no way we approach the month's average of 5.50" unless a couple TS park overhead between now and Saturday. wxeyeNH
7.4" of rain in May. 3.36" in June. Only .03" in the past week. Ground water is great and lawns are lush. Missed the CF/Cindy rain and yesterday's showers. Very happy with this season's rains. A quick shower/tstorm would be nice this week just for the surface grass. Love this cool weather! dendrite
Where do you find this stuff? MHT used to run pretty torchy before the ASOS got installed...temp and dew. That's just going by my own observation of following the various stations for a few decades. Still, that doesn't seem that rare to me...looks like a hair below 20%. An average of about 1 out of 5 days to a week this time of year in getting dews this low.
wxeyeNH
Just looked at the Euro forecasted rainfall for C/NNE through July 4th. 3-6+" for the region. I assume much will be convective so would have to watch out for flash flooding??
powderfreak
This was earlier this evening but so cool to see the drainage flow on the local PWS network. Wind flow is coming downslope off the Spine of the Greens on both the east and west sides. The cooler air is pooling into the valleys, as the dense air settles into the lower elevations. wxeyeNH
A very enjoyable (weatherwise) trip to Boston and back today. Doesn't look like any rain fell at the house up here. Headed back from Boston around 230pm at 80F. Went through nice shower line north of Boston and then again in Concord. Then a break but another line was developing north of Concord a real nice cell was developing. Dark precip free base. Really intensified just ahead of us. Went from no lightning to many CG strikes within 5 minutes it seemed. Hit a wall of heavy rain and hail just south of Sanborton. Cars were basically stopped on Rt 93 just south of the rest stop. I kept going another 1/2 mile and pulled in to the stop. No wind but lots of CG and rain/hail. Manholes were overflowing. Here is a short crappy video. Pea size hail stuff... Very enjoyable but would have done a number on our gardens. Broke out of the heavy storms at Exit 20. Hope eek's garden escaped, looked like the action was just south of Dendrite and eek. powderfreak
Interesting evening of some sunshine mixed with thunder and then finally some brief rain that left about 0.15" in the stratus. Here's a shot of the dog in the river in our backyard. Definitely a lab. Can't keep her from the water. If I let her outside and can't find her, I know where to look as she's usually down there running and splashing around.
J.Spin
Well, this morning’s precipitation data marks the final entry for June, so I’ve got the June and year-to-date numbers for liquid below: June liquid: 9.43” 2017 liquid: 32.29” Even if it hadn’t been time to report the June precipitation total, I was probably going to send along an observations report at some point today anyway, because there was 2.55” of liquid in the rain gauge this morning. That’s the highest 24-hour precipitation total of the calendar year thus far at my site. Our average June precipitation (7.57”) is already pretty substantial, but today’s addition sent us flying right past that mark to put the month’s rainfall at 25% above average. ApacheTrout
At 2:00 pm, I measured 1.7 inches of rain in the guage and dumped it out. At 2:25, there's an additional .90 inches (as viewed via binoculars, so I'm not accurate to the hundreth). That's a good clip, perhaps the most intense rain in my backyard since Irene. powderfreak
Some photos from after the high water here the other night. I honestly think the West Branch here in Stowe that drains Mount Mansfield and surrounding areas eastern slopes got as high as it did during Irene. That's the only other time I've ever actually seen this leave its channel in spots, which is pretty deep to begin with. Its amazing how fast water can rise and fall... yesterday it was already back down to a more normal but still swift muddy flow (normally this is crystal clear where you can see to the bottom even in the spots where its 6-8 feet deep in narrow pools). The high water flow was at least 6 feet above the normal surface. I know this is a turn in the river so water is bound to pile up higher but this was the most impressive level to me...this water was about 8-10 feet higher at crest than it was yesterday afternoon. Evidence of flowing water where water doesn't go. This stuff cracked me up...we are like 100s of feet away from the river and there are sticks stuck up against every tree. Again out of the normal channel which is at least 8-10 feet up. The locations of these massive tree trunks indicate what the river looked like that night. There was also probably 5 or more feet of ground that was eroded based on the worn walking path along the river.
