Met1985
As we enter into the late period of the month and we are officially into spring time, things look to bounce around as the norm goes, around this time of the year. From a high of 70 today to a high of 50 tomorrow. Got to love spring in the mountains.

We're actually late to the party. Got to see some light from lightning bouncing off the clouds last night but that's as much excitement as I got, not a drop of rain to be seen up this way. FlatLander48
My house hasn't shook that many times in one night in about 4 years. Lots of rain for my area, though I haven't checked the gauges at the house yet.

Met1985
The 7th and 8th are very interesting around here. A deep trough carves out along the east with much colder weather and a good chance at mountain snow. Both the gfs and euro is showing this. Met1985
Both the 12z GFS and euro continue a very cold look for early April. No doubt it would have implications on plants and trees and still looks to bring mountain snow along the boarder counties.

There was a decent sized rock slide on the parkway near Deep Gap. 3 hours ago, Met1985 said: Both the 12z GFS and euro continue a very cold look for early April. MarvelMountain
Over 4" in 24 hours. Loads of thunder until 5 a.m. today. Heavy rain on I-40 last night near Hickory and Morganton. Really great to see, but not good for driving. Made this short video today of my swollen creek. Haven't seen this in a while.

Nice video marvel. So thankful for the recent rains and storms. What a year makes. Also today was a 10 out of 10. Absolutely perfect.
Met1985
The weather models continue to show a major cold front coming through towards the end of the week around Thursday. It looks to get very cold for this time period and shows some snowfall also for high elevations even some places looking at up to 6 inches of snow at least on the 12z gfs. BlueRidgeFolklore
Just looked at the last 7 days for Bearwallow. Totals as it sat at 1:00p today was 5.76" in the last 7 days. Should be over 6" by the end of this thing. I'm itching to see how the drought index reacts.

SnoJoe
19 hours ago, Met1985 said: The GFS and euro still look great for some late season cold and snow . From GSP's HWO. I'll take it for the first week of April. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. ..Wednesday...Severe weather possible. A strong cold front will approach western North Carolina late Wednesday. Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of the front Wednesday afternoon and evening. Conditions will be favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornadoes. Localized flash flooding will also be possible. ..Thursday...High winds and winter weather possible. In the wake of the cold front, strong west to northwest winds will bring much colder air to the mountains. Winds may become strong enough from Thursday into Thursday night to blow down trees and power lines. Meanwhile, snow showers are expected across the high elevations Thursday and Thursday night. At least light accumulations of snow will be possible, mainly at elevations above 3500 feet near the Tennessee border. ..Friday...Winter weather possible. Snow showers are expected to gradually taper off across the high elevations late in the week. ..Saturday...No hazardous weather is expected at this time. ..Sunday...No hazardous weather is expected at this time. ..Monday...No hazardous weather is expected at this time. SnoJoe
Morristown is a little more bullish. From their SWS: A strong cold front will move across area Wednesday night with colder air spilling into the southern Appalachians. The cold air will allow the rain showers to change to snow across the higher elevations Thursday morning. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible at elevations at or above 4000 feet, and 1 to 4 inches between 2500 and 4000 feet, by Thursday evening. Heavier amounts possible across the highest elevations.
Hvward
Man this thing could unload on the higher elevations Thursday into Friday. NAM 3km showing 4"-8" above 4500'. Looks like Boone could also see some accumulation. That being said, it is going to take some heavy rates to get anything to stick. Most on here will at least see a few flurries, but elevation will be key. Also, soil temps are a few degrees lower at high elevations compared to the valleys so that will play into accumulation. I am getting pretty excited for this one. Chasing tomorrow in NE AL and N GA then I'll be chasing again Thursday night in the upper elevations. Love getting these late season snow surprises.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Met1985
Thanks Joe and Ward. This season has been anything but normal so might as well get some late season snow. I like our chances for sure especially above 3500 feet.
FlatLander48
I hope it's 70 and sunny tomorrow, forget snow. On a more serious note, looks like the higher elevations won't get hit hard today til after dark, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone saw a really good hailstorm this evening. Buckethead
The wife and I are in the process of buying a house in Wolf Laurel (4700' elev.) I'll consider any snow as an early housewarming gift lol. Gotta admit though, its nice to see mid 60's returning there by Tuesday.
