Tim from Springfield (IL)
ILX has put together a commemorative page on the central Illinois effects of the South/Midwest Mar. 16, 1942 tornado outbreak. Per ILX, this date was the last recorded F5 tornado in the present-day CWA (Lacon, IL): http://www.weather.gov/ilx/16mar1942-tornadoes At least 5 confirmed tornadoes reported in central Illinois from that outbreak: 1. Ivesdale to Alvin F4 (Piatt, Champaign, Vermilion counties) 2. Fairview F2 (Fulton County)--the severe thunderstorms of which produced tornado #3 below: 3. Middle Grove/Yates City F2 (Fulton/Knox/Peoria counties. According to ILX's map this actually was on the ground until reaching the west side of Elmwood--which had an F2 itself on 6/5/2010) 4. Kickapoo/Chillicothe/Lacon F5 (Peoria/Marshall counties) 5. NW of Lincoln (Logan Co.) F2--hit what is now the far NW edge of Lincoln, which wasn't developed at that time (According to the website and accounts, it appears that tornadoes 2, 3, and 4 according to ILX were originally thought to be a continuous tornado).
