At least we have some cold around mid-week if anything decides to pop up.  After that, the Euro says it will be somewhat mild/near average until the end of its run.

Overall, it seems like we go back to a more widespread AN pattern for a little while, at least in the east.

Looks like its back door cold front season

being vaporized here today-down to piles/drifts and plowed parts on the side of the street...some of that stuff will take a couple weeks to melt out....

The last two winters were some of my shortest snowpack duration for the amounts of snow that I got. Almost the opposite of those cold and dry winters in the 70's and 80's where smaller accumulations would really hang around for a while. That isn't such a bad thing in my area where the snowpack gets dirty really fast. Not like the pristine looking snowpack out in more rural areas that looks good longer term.

using NYC snow depth days it was a below average season...we did have 24 days where at least 1" fell or at least one inch was on the ground...twice as many as last year...

Please God send us a 950 millibar storm at benchmark with a decent airmass around beginning of April dropping 2 feet of snow so we can be happy and move onto spring the right way.

Pretty please I'm feening (A.K.A. Fiending.)

On the anniversary of the great Blizzard of April 6, 1982, how great would it be 35 years later to have a repeat.

Opening day at Yankees Stadium was postponed for three days. Almost a foot of snow fell in NYC and almost 20 inches in some of the N & W suburbs. Temperatures remained in the 20's throughout the storm and the next morning I had a low of 12 and 20 inches of snow on the ground. I believe NYC was 19 the next morning but someone could fact check me on that. The HV had a nice little 2-4 inch event three days later. Now that was a great April.

You live in SW Suffolk...lol. Can't live in a worse spot for good snow or severe..we still have some snow cover up here. The hills alongside the northern state are still snowcovered.

It could be worse. Like where we both used to live. Long Beach has to be the worst spot for snow in all of ny state

There are worse spots than here. The twin forks are definitely worse in general.

Since 2000? I don't know about that. They have done very well in some of the eastern storms and also occasionally have a storm we complety miss. Hard to beat being an urban barrier island. If not for total snow then definitely for snow retention with the snow eating high dew onshore wind.

They get rain or a dry slot more often than you would think. The blizzard last Jan definitely had more snow in Long Beach, maybe close to double. Boxing Day 2010 was much better here than the far east end. In marginal situations they also often get slop or rain where us being further west can save us. 12/30/00 and 2/25/10 were other examples of them being too far east/warm.

This is true. They are slightly further north though and as we know in some winters every bit of latitude helps. I agree about Boxing Day being garbage out there.

After studying the snow all week on the train into the city I think you guys had more snow then I did in wantagh last week. There seemed to be allot more of ene then ne rain/!frozen line. We melted our way before then say Rockville center. I was watching a surf video shot during the storm in rockaway and it looked completely different then out here. The piles were closer to what Manhattan had then here

Maybe we had more here, who knows. I lost all interest when it was raining already by 9am. There was definitely more though once you got past the Five Towns and JFK. In NW Queens there was probably 8", and the roads were still snow clogged often the next day. JFK was probably the dividing line between where it reached 32.

Never came close to 32 in northern Manhattan. So everything fell as some sort of frozen. It was amazing today that shady hill sides were still fully snow covered. I don't even have a plow pile left here

We just don't see that type of cold in April anymore. Even April 1982 was a throwback to the 1800's with the last 3 record low temperatures in a row for NYC. With the exception of 2003 when some areas got a nice storm, most of our recent April events have been car toppers at best like 4/16/14. That was another undermeasured event at the NYC where you have to look to the airports for the accurate light accumulations.

We would need a super anomalous cold shot for snow in April. Maybe we'll get lucky but I doubt it

Who wants arctic cold and snow in April anyway? It's a spring month, it's baseball season. Even if it snows from an unusual, freak event, it's all gone in less than 24 hours with an April sun and long daylight hours vaporizing it...

I'm not sure how long you've lived in Rockland but from Northern Rockland county north and west, snow in April especially the first week is not a freak event and I mean several inches not flurries.  Most of the HV area averages 2-4 inches in April.

March and April are the only 2 months we have been struggling to produce a top 5 snowstorm during the 2000's around NYC. We did it in Oct 11...Nov12..several occasions from Dec-Feb. Several eyecandy model runs for March 01 and 17.

I assume you mean April. The only place I would want to see a major snow storm in April would be up in the mountains to extend the ski season. Which looks to have a good spring season this year.

my landscape design business needs to kick into full gear by April. In the industry we call it the 100 days of hell. As your going to do 75% of your business for the year (if you only do landscape design and installation like myself). It's brutal but every client wants a May 1st installation date. After that no one cares about their landscaping until the next spring. I'm sure the other guys on here in the industry will back me up on that

here is a list of the coldest snowiest first ten days of April in Central Park since 1950...1950 had more cold with two inches of snow after the 10th...other years with one cold day or one light snowfall I left out...1982 has the greatest April wintry period...2003 the second greatest...2014 had a little snow and a below freezing morning after the 10th...

March also. This recent storm while decent for March, was only a top 5 event over the interior. It probably would have been a top 5 March snowstorm here if we had a decent -AO to work with. Big April snowstorms have always been on the rare to uncommon side here even in a colder era.

I didn't know that about landscaping clients. You would think that many people would be ok with new installations by Memorial Day weekend.
