maharg18
Heavy dusting on Signal Mtn now and temp of 33. Looks like it's about stopped.
John1122
The latest NAM showed the southern plateau switching to snow early on, I'm impressed that it saw that and that it happened. I'm not sure how or why it happened. It's 37 here and in Crossville. Weird that it's colder further south.
whamby
dynamic cooling due to heavier precip? maybe....
BlunderStorm
7 minutes ago, whamby said: dynamic cooling due to heavier precip? maybe.... Areas further north received more sunlight today at least that was the case for me, today in Honaker the high was 54F. Currently it is 39F with a steady drizzle. I may just be lucky enough to get a changeover to some moderate wet snowfall for a few hours.

John1122
The 18z NAM did great at picking that out.
whamby
lower temps in the upper levels due to that low pressure moving from the midwest?
BlunderStorm
If I can get that transition to snowfall as the NAM forecast, the North American Model deserves a lot of praise for picking up on something the other models didn't I am sitting at 36 with a plethora of precip ranging from rain to graupel to individual flakes and sleet, we shall see. That's it imo, as the winds down there are not coming in from the wsw like further north under that MW lp. Also, the sun further up this way probably had affect as well. John1122
Had a bit of sleet/snow mix on the back edge of the precip. 34 degrees. Will see if any wrap around actually happens here. NAM shows it, but wrap around is over modeled quite often.

John1122
This qualifies as one of my most wintry days of the year. 29 degrees with 1/4th inch of snow on the ground.
Jed33
Temp has dropped to 31 now. Have been seeing off and on light flurries for most of the afternoon. It sure does feel like winter today!
John1122
Steady NW flow snow this afternoon with temps in the upper 20s. Might squeeze out 1/2 inch.
BlunderStorm
My current temperature is 23F, about 1/2 inch is on the ground where I live with a trace in the town, I see some impressive swaths of snow heading down from Kentucky. The entire day has been characterized with persistent flurries overcast skies and a chilly breeze. A lot of the rain that fell during the night has froze over the grass so I am sure this and the low temperatures tonight will be fatal to anything that has bloomed. I also noticed some snow WNW of Memphis it looks like they may get some surprise snowfall.
caitsaunt
We had flurries on and off all day yesterday, even some in downtown Chattanooga, and then a nice dusting overnight on Signal. It was a pleasant surprise. They even delayed school. I am pretty sure we've seen more winter weather in the last 4 days than we have for the last 2 winters combined.
