What bothers me most is how unprofessional The Weather Channel has become. They are just a bunch of snow weenies hyping every single minor detail of this storm. I miss Joe Denardo and Bob Kudzma. I wonder what they think when they turn on this crap.

As bad as they've gotten, I'd still take them over AccuWeather in a heartbeat. I used to complain a lot about TWC when I had it. At least I could catch the local forecast on that channel and see local stats and radar. Accuweather is completely useless in that regard. May as well not have any kind of weather channel at all.

Exactly what I was talking about the other day when I said those folks act like this is life or death. Believe it or not, life goes on if you don't get as much snow as you want sometimes. We deal with that all the time here and we don't act like the world is about to end. It sucks but we move on.

Am I disappointed?  Yes. Is it gonna ruin my week? Absolutely not. We have been screwed time after time if that happened to them they would stop doing this hobby.

Yep. They've been spoiled with big storms over the years. It's like a fanbase in sports that's so used to winning championships that when they don't win one, they want to fire the coach over it. Yeah, I like to use sports analogies.

Anyone have any totals from some of the big cities? I know NewYork was sleet and rain for some time.

People I know in and around Philly got ~4" of snow and ~4" of sleet.  I would say some models didn't necessarily bust that badly on QPF out there, but almost none of them picked up on the intense warming aloft that got as north as the Poconos, probably because the track was actually further West than expected.  My brother got about 4" of snow plus some mixed stuff in D.C.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA
738 PM EDT Tue Mar 14 2017

.SYNOPSIS...
Upper low pressure will maintain cold and snow showers through
Wednesday.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Upper trough pivoting over the forecast area overnight will keep
strong northwestrly flow and cold advection in place with
continued periodic snow showers. Overall snow accumulations will
be muted with drier air moving in at lower levels and
enhancement in the ridges will be muted as temperatures aloft
become too cold for efficient snow production. Rates may pick up
slightly around daybreak in the ridges with the upper low
progged to be east of the region at that time and the
temperature profile begins to shift warmer back into ideal
temperatures for snow growth.

West of the ridges...localized areas of higher
accumulations of up to 3 inches are possible overnight and
tomorrow morning as hi-res models have been consistent in
hinting at bands setting up as flow becomes more northwesterly
and favorable for a possible Huron connection.

Overnight temperatures will range from the mid-teens to high
single digits at higher elevations. Wind chill values will be in
the low single digits across much of the region...down to as
low as -10 at highest elevations as winds remain gusty under a
strong pressure gradient and low levels remain mixed.

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
The cold, unstable northwesterly flow resulting from the
troughing aloft is likely to support convective snow squalls
through Wednesday, then diminish into Thursday as the mid level cold
pool is moderated, the trough fills, and boundary layer flow
backs toward the west.

Surface ridging will build over the region on Thursday, but
colder than average temperatures are likely to continue until
warm advection resumes on Friday. Lift ahead of and along the
warm front will support a period a wintry mix before changing to
rain. With some slight timing differences, opted to hold onto a
model blend, for now.

&&

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A deepening trough advancing across the Great Lakes Region will
support precipitation chances through Saturday. Less amplified
flow is progged for early next week with crossing embedded
shortwaves maintaining precip chances. Temperatures are expected
to remain below the seasonal averages through the period.

&&

.AVIATION /00Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Areas of light snow, general MVFR, and local IFR in snow showers
can be expected into Wednesday morning as low pressure aloft
encroaches on the region. Some improvement is expected at ports
south of I-80 corridor Wednesday afternoon.

Gusty NW winds 20-30kt will also accompany the persistent
pattern.

.OUTLOOK...
More restrictions are likely weekend low pressure.

&&

.PBZ WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
MD...Winter Weather Advisory until 8 PM EDT Wednesday for MDZ001.
OH...None.
PA...Winter Weather Advisory until 8 PM EDT Wednesday for
     PAZ007>009-074-076.
WV...Winter Weather Advisory until 8 PM EDT Wednesday for
     WVZ510>514.

On the Eastern U.S. water vapor loop, you can see the moisture feeding from the Yucatan all the way to Canada.

Alot of "what ifs" with this storm. Lol

This band CRUSHED us in Bellevue. Two inches. Of course I wasn't here, but went from nothing really in mccandless, and when I got to west view and Bellevue it was a whole different work.

Also the 4k NAM wants to bring that Huron band right through the metro tonight and tomorrow morning.

We'll see, but it's already hitting the east side of Cleveland pretty good.

Looks like a good call by the NAM, that band is really working its way though now, and at times some fairly moderate snow! Drove through it pretty much the whole ride into work.

It hurts to even think about it! If you could have moved the whole evolution of this storm another 300 miles South or so.... well lets not even talk about it lol.

Some pretty impressive LES coming off Ontario now too, good all around storm up there.

Maybe it's just me getting older, but I'm definitely not a fan of this weather. Bitter cold and nuisance snow showers just aren't my thing. I'd rather get a nice snowstorm and then have a moderating trend right after. Being teased with that warm weather we had last month probably didn't help either. Never been an LES fan anyway because you have to get lucky and be in just the right place, and then you usually don't get more than an inch or two at most out of a band anyway. Usually less than that. I'll take the 50s and 60s again over this. That's just me though.
