Speaking of the cold, this part of jacksonville's discussion really surprised me

Winds will diminish this evening, but high pressure remaining just
off to the northwest will keep winds near 5 mph in non-sheltered
areas. A very cold night is forecast, and temperatures could be the
coldest on record this late in the season at multiple locations.
Records are forecast to fall at all the climate sites. Overnight
lows are likely to be in the mid to upper 20s across the interior,
with upper 20s to lower 30s for the coastal areas. A Hard Freeze
Warning is in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning for
much of the interior, with a Freeze Warning elsewhere. Temperatures
could drop below freezing shortly around midnight across some
portions of the interior, with temperatures dropping to 27F or
colder across the interior for 2-4 hours. For areas east of the St.
Johns River and coastal southeast Georgia, temperatures are forecast
to drop to 32F or colder for 1-4 hours. Temperatures near the
immediate coast in northeast Florida are likely to remain above

I wonder if the same is true in north ga ? Have we ever experienced temps so cold so late in the season ?

Yes with 1993 being the obvious one.  I was in the low 20s back in April 2007 as well.  Tonight will be cold without a doubt but not near a record.

My mom had a light snow shower this morning in Marietta.  I'm convinced the barrow,  Cherokee,  central Cobb are at just the right trajectory to get these back end light snows.  I see the band setup in the same spot each time.  Of course 20 miles SW in douglasville we didn't see a flake.

there is something about the landscape in the area to funnel these bands right down the same path each time.
