Get it fixed soon! ;)

We have a retired friend who does small engine stuff part time. He is coming in the morning and thinks it will be fixed by evening.  He picks up and delivers.   Thankfully, a neighbor we are friends with got us cleared out.   I shoveled some, but we have a long driveway

Most impressive is North Smithfield RI way inland

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
800 PM EST THU FEB 09 2017

...SUMMARY OF BLIZZARD ON FEBRUARY 9 2017...

NOTE...NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE STILL OCCURRING ON PARTS OF
CAPE COD AND NANTUCKET AT THIS TIME. IF ANYTHING NEEDS ADJUSTING IN
THIS REPORT IT WILL BE ISSUED FRIDAY MORNING.

A BLIZZARD OCCURRED ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FROM THE LATE
MORNING THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON ON FEBRUARY 9TH 2017.

THE DEFINITION OF A BLIZZARD IS THAT FALLING AND/OR BLOWING SNOW
REDUCES VISIBILITY TO BELOW 1/4 MILE ALONG WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OR
WINDS THAT FREQUENTLY GUST TO 35 MPH OR MORE...AND THAT THESE ARE
THE PREDOMINANT REPORTED CONDITIONS FOR 3 CONSECUTIVE HOURS.

WHEN REVIEWING WHETHER A PARTICULAR OBSERVATION LOCATION HAD
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...WE COUNTED VISIBILITIES EQUAL TO 1/4 MILE
SINCE THAT IS QUITE LOW FOR AN AUTOMATED VISIBILITY SENSOR TO DETECT.

AT PROVIDENCE RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 5 HOURS AND
18 MINUTES...FROM 1051 AM TO 409 PM.

AT HYANNIS MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 5 HOURS AND
4 MINUTES...FROM 1256 PM TO 600 PM.

AT BOSTON MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS AND
34 MINUTES...FROM 1220 PM TO 454 PM.

AT MARTHAS VINEYARD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS
AND 32 MINUTES...FROM 1221 PM TO 453 PM.

AT BLOCK ISLAND RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS AND
12 MINUTES...FROM 1149 AM TO 401 PM.

AT BEVERLY MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
57 MINUTES...FROM 1212 PM TO 409 PM.

AT MARSHFIELD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
40 MINUTES...FROM 1215 PM TO 355 PM.

AT NEW BEDFORD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
38 MINUTES...FROM 1132 AM TO 310 PM.

AT WESTERLY RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
35 MINUTES...FROM 1153 AM TO 328 PM.

WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT BLIZZARD ALSO OCCURRED AT CHATHAM MA...
PROVINCETOWN MA...AND NORTH SMITHFIELD RI.

AT CHATHAM MA...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS BEGAN AT 107 PM AND CONTINUED
THROUGH AT LEAST 336 PM WHEN COMMUNICATIONS ISSUES OCCURRED. HOWEVER
THREE HOURS LATER VISIBILITIES WERE STILL 1/4 MILE AND WINDS WERE
STILL STRONG.

AT PROVINCETOWN MA...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE CONFIRMED FROM 1256 PM
THROUGH AT LEAST 356 PM BUT WINDS WENT MISSING AFTER 450 PM.

AT NORTH SMITHFIELD RI...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE REPORTED FROM 1056
AM TO 108 PM BUT WINDS WENT MISSING AT THAT TIME. VISIBILITY
CRITERIA WERE MET THROUGH 356 PM.

NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OCCURRED AT LAWRENCE MA...WHICH MET
CRITERIA FOR 2 HOURS AND 39 MINUTES... AND AT NORWOOD MA... WHICH
MET CRITERIA FOR 2 HOURS AND 23 MINUTES.

My rant of the evening. Just went out to make sure my traction controlled could be turned off on the truck in a large parking lot.  Zero plows out and they've called school. The snow is super light and they could have it done by midnight.  Absolutely zero reason for school to be called tomorrow.

14.5 was the final in North Haven with Thunder Snow today and 2-3 per rates, I would say this was a good storm...

Looks like my forecast of 10-18 was nearly perfect for the state as 95% or more fell between that range some 18-19 amounts and i think maybe some <10 in extreme SE CT.

Please quote me or PM me your FINAL totals and ill put an excel spread sheet together and make an accumulation map as well.

I was one of those east peeps that was frustrated this morning. I think it comes down to:

1) snowgrowth was absolutely horrible for first 6 hours... vs. CT / western MA where it came in like a wall with great snowgrowth from onset. That difference was not anticipated from soundings, and fortunately the heavy rates in the deformation band made up for it later. That's why I was asking about liquid equivalent in Boston.

2) the dry areas in NE MA seemed alot worse than guidance showed... we had posters up there wondering if the sun would come out. Yes, the 0z NAM / RGEM / Euro had relatively lower qpf in NE MA, and CoastalWx even warned people would get worried, but I don't think people expected extended periods without a flake.

3) I do wonder if KBOS truly saw 15" or something closer to 12" as others have said, but maybe we're splitting hairs with all the wind.

However we got there, in the end we saw 4" / hr rates, thundersnow, blizzard conditions, a death band... awesome storm.

ne mass experience today was in some ways like jan of 2015 back here but without the strong finish

we got lucky this time, really lucky

13.5" total here. A nice event. I had 3.5" in 30 minutes this morning during the height of the meso band. Huge dendrite aggregates just pouring out of the sky and added up very quickly. Pure fluff and much easier to remove than the 2" of sleet we had 2 weeks ago (which is still there under the fresh snow).
