As horrible as missing last Jan's blizzard was, missing the Jan 2015 debacle tacked on a year to my life at least. It still was a very nice event in Nassau County (looked like 14" or so in LB) but the expectation of this map would've killed the buzz a little. And the Euro was insisting on it until the very end.

Translates to a wet bulb of about 38F, so you need to cool down about 5F or so more at the surface so that evaporational cooling will get the surface down to about freezing.  Of course, that doesn't account for dynamic cooling, which will likely accelerate that, plus it can be snowing heavily aloft and still remain snow if it's only above freezing near the surface - I don't know what the column profile looks like over time.  That's where meteorologists make their money, lol.
