...POTENTIAL WINTER COMMUTING HAZARD FOR THE BALTIMORE AND
WASHINGTON METRO AREAS TUESDAY MORNING...

There is a potential for hazardous commuting conditions for the
Tuesday morning commute. A period of snow is POSSIBLE (a 30 to 60
percent chance) Tuesday morning across the Baltimore/Washington
metro areas with up to a half inch of snow accumulation possible
on roads. The best chance for accumulating snow will be north of
Interstate 70 in north-central Maryland as well as north and east
of the Baltimore Beltway in northeastern Maryland.

If this threat does materialize during the Tuesday morning rush-
hour, many roads could quickly turn icy. This could lead to
dangerous traveling conditions, multiple accidents, and extensive
delays.

If commuting Tuesday morning, be aware of the POSSIBILITY of
significant travel disruptions. Plan ahead by allowing for extra
travel time, and consider using public transportation and telework
options.

Stay tuned for updates on this potential winter weather episode.

Have always loved snow squalls. Just had one pass through for the last 15 minutes. Temp dropped from 33 to 29 degrees in at the most 2 minutes and to 27 through the duration. Ended up on the deck and grassy surfaces with roughly half an inch. The progression of snow was interesting as well. Went from needles to popcorn snow and then ended with small cotton balls of dendrites. And now the sun is breaking through. I'll take it, especially this winter.

Pretty vigorous low level lapse rates, really aiding the spread of the squalls.  Some of the pictures from the Thurmont area on Twitter show the convective nature of the clouds.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a lightning strike or two near the mountains where the terrain can enhance the activity.  Surprised there hasn't been some hellacious wreck on an interstate in the mountains.
