weatherpruf
It is nasty out; cold, windy and drizzly. Must be what Seattle is like in winter. Since the family is driving about to school and work today, am glad it isn't snow, but conditions are still bad out.
Sophisticated Skeptic
31.3 and very light snow now , on top of the glaze . this is huge, as it's telling us what's going on upstairs. which also confirms the newer and colder NAM run.

LongBeachSurfFreak
Winds haven't increased since early this morning not sure why that's occuring. Maybe we have to wait for the precip to move in to help bring the winds aloft down to the surface
friedmators
sleet?
NJwx85
2 minutes ago, friedmators said: sleet? Indeed, the warm tongue between 700 and 850mb is even more pronounced this run. At EWR, at 03z 850mb temp is +6.7C and even +0.6C at Williamsport, PA. LGA is +7.2C. 925mb temps are cold and the surface is in the mid-30's. So you might have some rain freeze and form sleet just above the surface, but with surface temps above freezing I wouldn't expect much accumulation. NJwx85
Good luck getting any snowfall with these 850mb temps later on tonight. The reason why some are seeing snow now is that it's currently below freezing at that level, but it won't last.

Took a look at the high res Para NAM. Between 00z and 12z during the height of the storm, most areas are +3-6C at 850mb, and warming continues into the morning. For example, at 06z, EWR is +8.4C at 850mb.
