Haven't went out again lately but looking at the CC radar and out my window, think I've transitioned back to sleet.  Knew I'd be riding the line all night, was hoping it would stay south of 85 though.  LKN area will get pasted all night though I bet, congrats to grit, Wow and QC.

My selective memory, as some would call it, remembers most of the whoppers around these parts came from TX/LA with temps already freezing and the locals called them right back in the day.  The last several years all of the calls have been based on models which I would say don't even hit 50/50 South of Spartanburg.  Nowadays I usually ignore the hype, yet always hope for a good snow which rarely happens.  Last year was the worst with the local mets telling people to buy generators for prolonged power outages ($1000 a pop) and     warning that our roofs were going to cave in from the 10 inches of heavy snow. We got .02 inches from that one.  Something is wrong with the system whether the mods here like it or not.

Not your worry for at least 5 days.

I'm still seeing the CC line sag south on Dupage through Meck...hope it continues.

Ok, parking lot is turning white, as are the few tops of cars I can see without venturing too far out. Also looks like actual snow finally. Lines up with CC radar (scroll back for links). Durham about 1 mile east of Southpoint mall.

heavy sleet now - wow - riding the line tonight

Yep... this is pretty much what the HRRR was showing earlier. Basically I-85 is the snow/mix line tonight.... right up to Charlotte. Hopefully it will bow down for you guys again as the rates pick back up and dynamical cooling via melting snowflakes erodes the warm nose aloft.

From RAH tonight:

In what is expected to
be the all or mostly snow area over the Nrn Piedmont, where the 00Z
GSO RAOB sampled an extremely favorable snow profile, currently
advertised "Most Likely" snow totals may be conservative given the
wetter trend in recent NAM and RAP runs.

I have to believe it.  At this rate we'll hit 8" by the middle of the storm!
