Listening to the thruway authority on my police scanner right now and the 90 is done! Plows are stranded in gridlock. Cars and semis are now becoming stuck. This is getting very serious if this band doesn't move.

Well you have a couple hundred thousand people leaving work at the same time in 3-5" per hour snowfall rates. Not a good situation lol.

I am stuck at Tim hortons at southwestern and Abbott. Southwestern past abott heading towards transit was closed and they were turning us around. Abbott heading north was literally totally gridlocked. Decided it was best to pull in here and wait it out as I have seen dozens of cars totally abonded or in ditches. Starting to get abbot scary here.

...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT CENTRAL ERIE...SOUTHWESTERN
GENESEE AND NORTHWESTERN WYOMING COUNTIES...

A band of lake effect snow producing snow fall rates of 3 inches per
hour will continue to drift another mile or two north through about
6 PM, just clipping southern sections of Buffalo. The heaviest snow
will fall along a line from Lackawanna to West Seneca and Lancaster
and east into Alden. This leaves the Northtowns relatively
unscathed, but with continued evening commute problems for those
travelling toward the Southtowns. Along the Thruway, conditions
improve dramatically south of Eden and from Williamsville east.
However, treacherous conditions will continue near the 219, 400, and
I-90 interchanges through at least 6 PM.

This band sill remain steady for a few hours early this evening,
before heading south across the Southtowns again later this evening.

This is November 2000 all over. Just 5 miles south.

What, in terms of the timing and gridlock?

As far as placement goes, it's like at least a dozen events in the last few years alone.

Timing right at rush hour. The gridlock. The intensity being extremely over achieving. This band was forecast near perfect but the intensity just wasn't seen. I don't think a lot of people took this storm seriously.

They are now shutting down Harlem road in both directions at Mineral Springs as well. Just about every major north south road is totally gridlocked or closed hence why I'm stranded.

WS police were reporting a bridge joist popped out from a plow on Harlem over the river. They are concerned of a collapse.

Be safe it's dangerous out there left north Buffalo around 3:30 heading towards blasdell and I'm just getting back toward the tonawanda's... key is to not use the major routes with these kind of events you'll be stuck lol. Skyway parking lot from downtown all the way to Hamburg same for all the other routes..

Special Weather Statement

...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT CENTRAL ERIE...SOUTHWESTERN
GENESEE AND NORTHWESTERN WYOMING COUNTIES...

A band of lake effect snow producing snow fall rates of 3 inches per
hour will remain in place through about 8 PM. This 10 mile wide
band will then start to head back south across the Southowns. Until
then, the heaviest snow remains just south of Buffalo, and includes
Lackawanna to West Seneca, Lancaster, and east into Alden. The
Northtowns will only see a dusting from this event. Areas from South
Buffalo and the immediate towns to the south area being hit
particularly hard this evening, with some areas quickly closing in
on 2 feet of snow.

Traffic in the above mentioned areas are at a standstill. Travelers
who would like to head south across the band should wait it out
until road crews can clear the roads.

Band should begin to strengthen a little bit with the added synoptic moisture the next few hours as it drifts south. I think 4-5" rates are coming back soon.

Is it snowing heavily in the metro area? Obviously its pouring snow in the Southtowns but not the city.

Nope never made it to the city. No model really showed it getting north of the city though. Not sure why they forecasted it to.

Downtown through Amherst all saw <1".

And the NWS call for the far southtowns was 8-12, with nearer southtowns getting less.

So, not a great forecast from KBUF.
