Yeah, I just spent an hour outside shoveling, it's cold

Wimps!  No but in the shade I agree it's actually pretty cold.  Feels pretty good in the sun though.

Hah, I dunno... the wind is still whipping pretty good up here so any sun effect is minimized I guess. I was out chipping ice off the driveway under direct sunlight and wasn't really getting that warm, fuzzy feeling.

Yeah, the wind here hasn't been all that bad today, so you can feel the sun's warmth better.

I decided to shovel and clear the back area in anticipation of this snow.  Now we won't get any.

It's been windy here all day. I had to shovel to make room for more parking for Saturdays festivities.

Just finished dealing with the negative side, if there is such a thing, to a big snow. Snow in the attic that got through the vents during the storm that melted through the ceiling. Anyone know what to do to prevent that in the future?

Move to Florida?  I'll ask my brother who is a carpenter when I see him n

I'm tracking how quickly or not the mid to late March climate will melt the current snow pack. I picked a flat spot that has no sun until the afternoon.
I ended the evening on Tuesday the 14th with a snow pack of 21 inches.
By Wednesday morning even with frigid overnight temps near 10 the compression had brought it down to 19.5 inches.
With the high of 22 on Wednesday, little sun and snow showers throughout the day the snow pack Thursday morning was 18.8, probably mostly compression more than anything.
After a high of 35 yesterday the snow pack this morning (Friday) was 17.5 inches.
It's standing up pretty well considering the time of year and sun angle. I'm hoping to enter April with the lawn at least still covered. That's my kind of March.
I'll be tracking this every day so people that like to watch paint dry can also follow this. I find it interesting at least, which says a lot about me.

Just to make it official.

Public Information Statement
National Weather Service New York NY
925 AM EDT Fri Mar 17 2017

...Evaluation of Blizzard Conditions for the March 17, 2017
Winter Storm...

The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to
further verification by the National Weather Service.

A blizzard occurred over portions of northeast New Jersey, the
Lower Hudson Valley, and interior southern Connecticut on March
17 2017, during the morning and early afternoon.
When reviewing whether a particular location had blizzard
conditions, visibilities equal to 1/4 mile were counted. This is
because these are quite low for an automated visibility sensor to
detect.

At Stewart Airport (Newburgh, NY), blizzard criteria was met from
945 AM to 345 PM. Erroneous gusts to 57 mph may have been
reported during the first two hours, but nearby observations
supported winds 35 mph or greater. The observation only reported
blowing snow, but snow was verified by radar.

At Oxford-Waterbury Airport (Waterbury, CT), blizzard criteria was
met from 840 AM to 1155 AM and 130 PM to 435 PM. Snow was
confirmed by radar.

While Poughkeepsie/Dutchess County Airport (Poughkeepsie, NY) is
just outside our forecast area, the observation is supportive of
conditions that occurred in nearby Putnam County NY. Blizzard
criteria were generally met between 1218 PM and 531 PM. The
present weather sensor failed, but snow was verified by radar.

While Sussex Airport (Sussex, NJ) is just outside our forecast
area, the observation is supportive of conditions that occurred in
western Orange County as well as western Pasaic County. Blizzard
criteria were generally met between 930 PM and 253 PM.

At White Plains, NY, Danbury, CT, Meriden CT, Caldwell, NJ,
Teterboro, NJ, Bridgeport CT, and New Haven, CT, the highest winds
occurred when the precipitation was mixed and/or light snow.
Visibilities were all over the required criteria of 1/4 mile or
less during the strongest winds.
