Solak
Ryan Maue | weather.usVerified account @RyanMaue 5m5 minutes ago Hopefully the forecast moderates considerably -- not sure I'm okay with 9°F in Atlanta to end 2017 next Sunday morning. ECMWF 12z uncorked one of the historically coldest model forecasts this century. #PolarVortex

griteater
That's an intense 500mb look on the GFS for Jan 1. Southern wave moves from Baja to Texas, then large northern stream trough dives in behind

AfewUniversesBelowNormal
Not really much change happening to the pattern. We have a -EPO retrograding the North Pole, but that's about it and nothing follows it...

packbacker
GEFS looks like a solid pattern day 7. PNA ridge that noses into HB and low heights from the lakes stretched to NF. Comparing to EPS...EPS NF low is much stronger so suppression. Personally I think it's overdone and that will weaken in the coming days, this one definitely has a chance to trend NW. packbacker
EPS still with that Jan 4 potential. Pattern is collapsing at that point though.
WarmNose
Winter Wx in the south is a fickle creature. We walk a very fine line between Rain, frozen, and nothing 12z runs will bring the noise!

Poimen
The day 6 setup on the GFS is about as good a look as you can get for an eventual SE snowstorm. Hoping we can score with this one.

SnowNiner
Meh, I don't know what to think about the January timeframe. With this week's storm evaporating it's hard to have any faith in any storm modeled. I know models change and fluctuate but that was the biggest fastest poof I've seen by so many models in agreement 6 days out. First week of January timeframe however seems to generally be a stronger signal on the eps. Perhaps that will be the difference. Just gonna see where we are middle of the week.
