Prime example why you don't take snowfall maps at face value, especially in a setup such as this. :) After a half hour of snow we have switched over to sleet and freezing rain even here on the PA/MD line. Did drop to 23 from an initial 25 just before the onset of precip. Guess we get to do our last minute Christmas shopping in an icy mess.

Light to moderate sleet and freezing rain.

Streets are rapidly turning into ice rinks.

Antecedent frigid conditions are enabling instant ice accretion in an upper 20s ambient air temperature environment with below freezing ambient road temperatures.

DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE ON SIDE ROADS IN DALE CITY - IT IS RAPIDLY BECOMING LIFE THREATENING!!!!!

This is not just a problem for vehicles, but also to pedestrian traffic. This is NO TIME for a jebwalk.

Moderate sleet now and 28 (up a degree in last hour).  Looks like close to a half inch of sleet now, with streets pure white.  If you didn't know any better you'd think it had snowed.  Once this changes to all freezing rain, it is going to solidify into a nasty glaze.

We'll see how fast we get above freezing, but looking due south there are upper 20s all the way to Richmond.  Much warmer east with mid-30s to mid-40s on the eastern shore and some mid-30s nosing into lower southern MD.

Not a trace of frozen, not even a lone, single sleet pellet.  Rain from the start here.  28F currently.  It's icy out, but miserable.  Nothing worse than freezing rain.  Would rather have an all-out torch.  At least that is coming in a few hours.

goodb thing its saturday, people should just stay home

Just looked up that huge crash on I-95 near Baltimore - over 40 vehicles including a tanker truck.  Authorities say the tanker went off the bridge and fell down to the street below. Holy crap.

I looked at the EDD map you can get on NWS (from Sterling's site, Current Conditions - Observation Map) and man is that a textbook CAD!  Upper 20s all the way to central NC, and 50s and even low 60s in WV, KY, OH, etc.  Crazy.
