It was great to finally meet the people who were the voices of NOAA weather radio which I listened to every day since the 70's. I did a tour of OKX back in the 90's shortly after they moved out there. All the workstations and especially the doppler console was really cool to see in person. There appeared to be a section of binders with old weather records near where you come in to the office. those were the original climate binders from past years...They were taken there from Rockefeller and The Battery when they moved... CIK62
So far this cold season there have been just 29 days of 32 or less for lows and 6 days of 32 or less for highs at CPK. I believe about 70-75 32-degree days is the norm, and 15-20 times it fails to go above 32. Using a cutoff of April 15 for the last 32-degree day, gives us 63 more chances to get 40 more 32-degree days. Unlikely with even a good pattern, I would think. CIK62
Thanks. Looks like the normal number is greater than the 75 I imagined it to be, though this may be closer to the truth since say 1950.

Hailstorm
12z Euro completely drops next Thursday's threat. It's time to write off next week's potential as we are inside the Euro's deadly range. And the EPS/GEFS has NEVER supported this threat in the beginning as the smart posters in the Mid-Atlantic thread also stated yesterday. More people should read the insightful analysis in that sub-forum as almost everything that they discuss applies to our area as well.

LOL right, that's why they average 28" of snow per season right? Climatology of the MA is about as different from this area as we are from New England. Actually we are more similar to southern SNE than we are to any location in the MA south of about Toms River

Get out of here with this crap. What happens down there doesn't always translate up here. Take this past Thursday they got **** down there while we had 8 plus inches of snow See winter 1993-94 for another gaping discrepancy. We don't have a similar climate to any area south of about Toms River than we do to, say, Providence, RI.

DCA averages 60% of NYC's snowfall, and NYC averages 57% of BOS's snowfall. So it's about the same. You can't use raw inches because the larger snowfall experienced by northern areas distorts the difgerence.

Boston should have a lot more snow than us, they aren't that far from New Hampshire and Maine lol.

Record heat in Sydney, Australia for their summer also. http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/intense-heat-to-break-121-year-old-record-in-sydney-australia/70000809 After a 121-year-old heat record fell on Friday, dangerously hot weather will continue to bake Sydney, Australia, on Saturday. Saturday became the 11th day this summer to record highs exceeding 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) at Sydney's Observatory Hill (the city’s official weather station) as temperatures soared to 36.0 C (96.7 F). Never before have so many such days been registered in a summer since record-keeping began in 1859. The old record for the most days was nine, which was originally set during the summer of 1895-96, according to data from the Bureau of Meteorology. At the Sydney Airport, a new record was set for the hottest February day with a high of 42.9 C (109.2 F) on Friday. The old record was 42.6 C (108.7 F) originally set on 21 February 1980. For a city where a high of 26.5 C (80 F) is more common in February, this latest blast of heat will continue to put a strain on residents.

CIK62
Might be late in the game, but CFS showing an outstanding 22 BN days out of the next 30 day period. This includes the longest BN stretch I have seen it produce in a long time, late Feb. to March 14 inclusive. Looks 'inky blue' for a change at times, so remove the sun glasses and get out the ear muffs. In mid-Jan this pattern would have both scared and delighted me!
