Didn't realize this board was a pissing match for forecast verification. Everybody can make their own conclusion as to who is best.

My personal observation is that the best forecasters, for whatever reason, don't boast about their records (most likely because they aren't insecure re their skill level). Sure, some look back and briefly reference or critique their own forecasts, but this score keeping is incredibly weak.

Thanks for a beautiful memory.

There is of course no mention of Orange County in the above and we received over two feet of snow. I suppose it wasn't windy enough for the NWS to include us in the warning.

My records show we got bumped into the Blizzard Warning later on. 18.1" here, one of my favorite storms, awesome drifting around here from all of the open fields.

Big LR improvement on GFS from yesterday.    Now indicates the more usual (for the last 22months) 9BN days out of the next 30.     NewYearsDay  is the first.  But really arctic air never gets here so far.   Yesterday there were just 2BN days showing.

Hope u guys get some snow. Currently in Aruba with sunny skies around 80. Weather is weird here, it rains a few times a day literally for a few minutes and that's it. No humidity though I really like this place a lot. Kinda pissed that I might miss the snowstorm on Thursday afternoon but I'm on my honeymoon so I wish u guys the best of luck and hope you guys had a good Christmas.

So disappointed, where I work, we were possibly going to get one of the 17 enhanced mesonet stationsthrough New York mesonet program, along with getting a coop station from nws that I'll be running Most of the time. However, NWS,being slow and understaffed still hasn't done the install but have the equipment finally, should be installing next year sometime.  Finally contacted mesonet people to find out there not bringing one of the enhanced stations to east end. Would if been really cool with the microwave and all the other hi-tech equipment it has. Between the NWS and mesonet, the north fork still in my opinion lacking official equipment, as there's about 3 or 4 plus new mesonet on south fork from west Hampton to montauk. And one new mesonet in Southold. One coop in mattituck, and that's it I do believe. Other coop stations further east have either ended, plum island for example, and greenport where village neglect of maintenance means NWS wants nothing to do with them.

That's my end of the year banter lol now to put the bills in mailbox and play some call of duty on my new ps4.

Didn't we have a similar event as this, well we did, the year Sandy hit? It was a blizzard, snow like crazy changed to heavy rain for hour at 10 pm, then back to heavy snow for rest of storm and a big drop in temperatures. Long Island expressway was closed and a big disaster along with  route 347 with stranded cars etc. Took days to clean up everything as there's was about inch of ice and 2 feet of snow. Required heavy equipment, bulldozers, bucket loaders, we lost power for 10 hours. I think I spent 3 days of plowing at work with half our road missing from Sandy.
