Close the shades for awhile, go out and enjoy the holidays-no obsessing over model runs for awhile.  Maybe it comes back, but let's hope it's not one of those "the cold and snow are 10-15 days away" deals we often see in dead ratter winters that only have a week or 2 of good weather!

Looks like one of those periods where you can be more productive and not have to worry about checking every model run...not going to be much to watch!

I was in Florida from Thursday night until last night. It was in the upper 80's Sunday and Monday with increasing humidity.

Hyping about what? There is not going to be a blowtorch.

just about every warmup going back 6 months has over performed.  It will torch, the question is how long and how strong.  JB said some record warmth is possible at some point during the coming inferno.  Enjoy the torch, it's the only torch you got.

Once again LOL @ "torch hypers" 70+ on xmas last year oppose to upper 30s/ low 40s this year... remind me again about how awful NYC snow season was last season?

You warmistas do realize what your average temps are this time of year right?

I see 1 true "torch" day.. dec 30... upper 50s.. maybe 60... other than that it's relatively normal to slightly AN... everyone needs to stop crying and hyping winters over... on Dec 20th

edit: I'll throw in Dec 27th low to mid 50s

I feel like all you guys do is look at Average temp anomalies maps... see the pretty red colors, and assume we're 20+ degrees AN, 42F on xmas in NYC, is not a torch.. sorry

you know the departures will be double or triple that.   every warmup has exceeded expectations...whether it be dry ground, etc, we've torched every month this year

How do you know this? I can't remember the last time we had an extended period of positive departures at least up here. This is late dec now and there is plenty of snowpack to your north. Look what happen last night. Many areas dropped a good 5-10° below forecast. This bridge jumping is getting out of control

Frist week of December here was a torch fest.  I never said it wouldn't snow...we can get snow in a crappy pattern.    My point is it will be warm to torchy for the next 2-3 weeks at least....every indice is horrible   +EPO, +AO +NAO and on and on

Average high temp today is about 5.5 Celsius or 42F.

When you are 2-4 Celsius above, it means temps are 7.5 Celsius to 9.5 Celsius, which translates to 45.5F to 49.1F.

That makes the Fahrenheit departure +3 to +7. Or an average of +5.

These are large positive anomalies.

Well enjoy the "torch" then, guess I'll enjoy relatively seasonal temps up here in the "mountains"

The map has you at +5-6C above normal. If you average a high of 39F on those days, you would be at 48F-51F degrees or +9F to +11F.

Very large departures however you slice it.

P.S. Not sure why you are being combative. Just making sure people know what they are looking at (NOT saying you do not).

I can't be the only one here tired of the term "torch".  Its so subjective and played out.

IMO, anything above a +5 over a 2+ week period is a torch. A -5 would be construed as a major cold spell but we havent seen a single negative departure in 18 months.

That's the issue, everyone has their opinion as to what it is, its subjective.  I'm not debating how warm it is these days, I just think the term was silly to start with and certainly worn out now.

Not being combative, just think torch is a ridiculous term that should be used for +15 and beyond, if your average temp is 39, and you happen to hit 44... calling it a torch is an exaggeration IMO, like I've said.. 70+ on xmas certainly warrants a term like torch but not 0 to +10, I think it's misleading
