I thought this might be helpful to the community, so you can see how your region or city compares the windiest areas in the US. http://www.nrel.gov/gis/wind.html You could also compare this to the NCDC annual average wind map. That is on this web site http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/climaps/climaps.pl?directive=quick_search&subrnum= if you can figure out how to work the web site.
