Most here expected it, lets just hope this is a trend and not a one run showing. The NW trend is usually faithful around 48. It could correct more NW over the next 2 days. Not sure about 13 weather, Jason will only say 1-3 for most of wnc, models are starting to spit out there will be more snow totals, how can Jason already make a call like 1-3 when models keep going up with snow accumulation. He us being conservative, no reason to put higher totals out yet. We could very easily end up on the low end.

To be fair this is just his initial estimate. Channel 4 is saying the same. They will adjust it over the coming days if this becomes a trend. FlatLander48
Looking at the main thread, the snow:rain ratio is extremely high. Like 16-17:1 it looks like. That'll be fun.

snowbird1230
What kind of ratios would we be talking about in the mountains.? Could accumulations be higher than what's actually shown if this GFS run verifies?
WNC_Fort
How's the first wave looking as of now? Trying to decide between staying in Boone or outside Asheville for this one. Feeling a little bit better about it now either way!

BlueRidgeFolklore
We're still 48 hours out, it would not surprise me one bit to see it kick NW some more.
Tyler Penland
Um wow. Just went on lunch and the GFS has gone from 1-2" to 8-10". That's a big adjustment.
FlatLander48
What I really want to see is the s/w retaining as much energy as it can as it moves towards the gulf. The stronger it is, the more North it will go, and the more moisture enhancement it will have. That's why the GFS looked so nice was the s/w was stronger. SnoJoe
Boyer going with "high ground temps" that will limit snow totals. What? I'll barely get above freezing for the next 48 hours before it starts. There will be no ground temp issues here. He still has the low tracking across central FL too. He did put me in the 1-3 inch range though so I'll take it. Anyhow, I'm already down to 24.8 here with a good breeze. Chilly.

Anyway, soil temperatures in Asheville per the NCSU weather station next to the airport, are showing 44 right now. We'll get down to 27 tonight, high of 44 tomorrow, barely above freezing on Friday and then mid-20's on Saturday. The soil temps should be down around freezing easily by Saturday. He could be talking about the first wave, which in that case might be a problem.

His forecast for tomorrow night is mostly cloudy for everyone. But.......he could be right on everything. Who knows.
