I guess we should start paying attention to the 21-23rd window. Ops are bouncing with all kinds of varied solutions but ensembles are pretty much in agreement that there is potential for some sort of complicated phased or cutoff storm making a run at us from the south.

Ensemble MSLP plots like the idea of an overhead or close pass in general. October storms can be fun and there is really nothing else to talk about except how nice it is outside.

Would probably produce the first snow showers of the season in the western highlands.

6z GFS still has that storm but keeps it offshore. It then brings in a 1034 H a few days later that bulldozes everything in its path and brings in big negative temp departures.

A few days of low 80's doesn't bother me, and it's better than the kiss of death, snow in October.

This morning is perfect.

Last few days have been perfect.

I bet there will be some places that see highs of 85-86 this week. When it comes to warmth we typically over-perform.

Exactly. Low humidity and low sun angle means that 80s in mid October is really easy to handle. People get hotter from flapping their gums while complaining about it than they do from the actual air temps.

I have a huge area of newly seeded lawn after a just-completed deck replacement, so the warmth will hopefully help the seed to get growing.

First freeze is being elusive this year. Looks like a brief window for IAD and maybe BWI roughly around the 24-27th. If that doesn't pan out then it could be Nov for all locations. Of course any good radiational night with hp over head can do it in the burbs but nothing is obvious on guidance.

One of the issues for getting good cold down here is the fairly consistent AN height pattern in Canada. All the cold stuff is on the other side of the globe.

Amen.

Also, I feel good with a warm October. Seems like if we get a cold October, it backfires on us come winter.

We haven't had an BN month since May and Oct will almost certainly be another AN one. I'm rooting for AN Nov so we can run 6 consecutive in a row. That can't be common.
