Yeah so far the winds have over performed my expectations. Curious about tonight at 7pm. Could be bad
WidreMann
Here in South Durham, we've had some breezy winds, but nothing to write home about. I'm curious to know why there's such a large difference over a small area.
gwlee7
It is interesting. "Only" 3.5 inches of rain since 9:30 last night here. I am basically at the junction of US 64 and I 95 in Nash County.
ragtop50
I have never seen my rain gauge fill up this fast! Approaching 6 inches here.
downeastnc
If downstream rain totals are accurate I fear the 12-16" totals IMBY on the latest runs are accurate, and they are under estimating the rainfall inland...as well.....why cant they be this right when they clown map me with 12-16" of snow...... Kind of fun to watch but miserable conditions to play in.....the field is horrendous. Brick Tamland
Surprised how much rain and wind there is here. Getting kind of dicey outside now.
downeastnc
Absolutely insane rain rates for inland areas Fayetteville to RDU going to over perform easy it appears.....I looked at this a few hrs ago and it was general 1-2" now 4-5"
WeatherNC
a little over 2" in the gauge as of 1pm, still scattered variety but that looks to be ending shortly. Pine Log Canel which our property boarders to in the back has overflowed already and starting to come up the back. It's about 15' wide and usually a foot or two deep, it needs to get about 6' high to come over the bank and u would estimate it's a foot over that based on how much is under water back there. Just heard thunder in the distance
LithiaWx
I'm surprised at the lack of tornados today. Usually with a land falling cyclone you see many more.
metwannabe
Radar estimates show a very large area now of 4" with many pockets of 6-8", this is going to be a very widespread issue for sure and the winds really picking up now. And now I'm hearing thunder too.... isn't that a little unusual in tropical systems? Just don't remember hearing thunder with other landfalling systems
ldub23
Thunder is bad news. means a very dynamic atmosphere that will bring wind to the surface.

Looks like this is occurring in Charleston right now. 60kts(69mph) gusts occurring which is the strongest winds they have seen this event. metwannabe
Not nit picking the NWS but FF warnings haven't extended northward probably based on radar estimates which I don't put much stock in with tropical systems but we've got several roads here with water coming across them now.... It is nuts here. Sustained winds near 30 and frequent gusts near 40. Limbs down and standing water everywhere. Where it's not standing, it's flowing rapidly! blueheels2
Im in North Raleigh and it has rained since about 11 last night. Wind is gusting and the power has flickered a couple of times. Hope we don't lose power.
arandall
With rain rates keeping up like they are, it feels like we're going to get a lot more than the 3-4" they were calling for in Durham.. looking more and more ominous for folks south and east of here.
