next recon flight turned around too

Pretty hard to make fixes without satellite data... This is a very big problem if this is anything more than a few hours, as whenever this thing starts to turn and accelerate poleward is crucial to timing later on.

Will affect 00z models right?

In some way, I'd assume yes. Don't think it's necessarily a devastating failure though. There's probably someone in here who can answer this far better than myself.

This buoy could be very close to the track mid-day Sunday (or late Sunday if this slow motion trend continues)

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/radial_search.php?storm=at4

and in the absence of satellite imagery it will at least provide us with clues as to what might be happening. You can see that over the past three hours the weather conditions at this buoy have not changed very much and the wind speeds are fairly low, pressure not falling much if any.

Im thinking NHC won't have enough information to issue an 11pm update I would think....

There are other sources of information. Full disk GOES West can see the hurricane, but only normally updates every 3 hours. A number of polar orbiting satellites also regularly pass over the storm, so I expect there to be enough info to maintain it at the current strength, but this lack of data will impact overnight model runs.

GOES west remains operational and provided a good look at 0Z. If someone wanted to take out the sat. feed they would have taken them all out. Take your conspiracy theories to OT. Maybe bring up chemtrails while you're at it :hurrbear:

Don't forget HAARP either.

Perhaps GOES taking a major outage during a key time will convince congress to actually fund NOAA better...

Yeah right, someone will be scapegoated, fired, and next year's budget quietly slashed.

Surprised nobody's mentioned the Solar Storm yet.  It's been widely publicized the last few days.

TECH MELTDOWN FEARS - A solar storm is blasting towards Earth and it could cause CHAOS

Radiation from a gigantic hole in the Sun is heading our way and it's threatening to play havoc with the sophisticated technology which powers modern civilization

Earth is about to be bombarded by a solar storm which could cause mayhem on our planet.

A massive hole in the Sun is spewing out vast amounts of radiation which is expected to reach us by Friday.

But radiation also plays havoc with modern technology and could knock out the satellites which connect modern civilization.

They just don't want anybody know where they're moving the residents of Gitmo.

On an unrelated note, if this comes even close to the NJ coast, it could be ugly.  Our beaches took a huge hit this week from our little stalled cold front
