downeastnc
Pretty decent conditions outside now, steady winds 25 with gust well into the 30's, down on the coast they probably just took a waterspout over Shackleford Banks just west of the lighthouse and another pretty strong rotation headed for Ocracoke.... Ser Pounce
Wind showed up. I had fun sitting on the front porch, watching the green lightning from power transformers blowing up for the last half hour. I thought for sure I'd see the Bradford pear across the street go down but it lives to see another day.
Dunkman
There's over 100 kts. of rotation on the couplet associated with the latest TOR in Carteret County. Thankfully it's over farmland at the moment. As for me, all zeros for Hermine here in NW High Point. I did notice a few drops on the windshield early this afternoon. Thats a nasty one, looks like it went just west of Sea Level and Atlantic and is over Long Bay and Piney Island and there isnt anything there but marsh and it probably cant last long enough to make it Pamlico Co.... downeastnc
the center really has picked up speed now, will shut the rain off pretty quick.....the wind though is better than I thought it would be, when the rain lets up it picks up and then when a heavy squall comes though it picks up...might even be hitting 40-45 mph in gust.... just checked the rain gauge and its got 3.55" in it...seems low to me....that plus the 2.5" I got last night puts me at 6" in the last 30 hrs though...this would suggest we had 11.15" if I am reading it right....and honestly those hourly numbers look pretty legit based on how hard its been raining this afternoon and evening...still I think 11" is to much...6-8" feels more likely....this includes the thunderstorms we got last night around 5-6 http://climate.ncsu.edu/dynamic_scripts/cronos/query.php 09/01/2016 17:50 H 0.86QC0 09/01/2016 18:50 H 0.23QC0 09/01/2016 19:50 H 09/01/2016 20:50 H 09/01/2016 21:50 H 0.13QC0 09/01/2016 22:50 H 09/01/2016 23:50 H 09/02/2016 00:50 H 0.01QC0 09/02/2016 01:50 H 09/02/2016 02:50 H 09/02/2016 03:50 H 0.51QC0 09/02/2016 04:50 H 1.32QC0 09/02/2016 05:50 H 0.46QC0 09/02/2016 06:50 H 0.09QC0 09/02/2016 07:50 H 0.27QC0 09/02/2016 08:50 H 0.86QC0 09/02/2016 09:50 H 1.17QC0 09/02/2016 10:50 H 0.86QC0 09/02/2016 11:50 H 0.75QC0 09/02/2016 12:50 H 0.16QC0 09/02/2016 13:50 H 0.37QC0 09/02/2016 14:50 H 0.55QC0 09/02/2016 15:50 H 0.49QC0 09/02/2016 16:50 H 0.66QC0 09/02/2016 17:50 H 0.48QC0 09/02/2016 18:50 H 0.23QC0 09/02/2016 19:50 H 0.2QC0 09/02/2016 20:50 H 0.18QC0 09/02/2016 21:50 H 0.31QC0 Sum 11.15 Average 1/n ∑ ai 0.5 Mean (max+min)/2 0.7 High 1.3 Low
downeastnc
Winds really up now, gusting 40-50 mph constantly.....way better than I expected on the wind side of things, rain all but stopped but I hear trees ( or at least big limbs) breaking....my neighbors must think I am a madman standing in the road at 1 am holding a Kestrel above my head lol....highest on it is 43.... Cold Rain
According to Doppler estimates, I got nearly 4". Not sure how accurate that is, but that seems about right, based on the intensity I observed most of the day yesterday. Wake county was once again strongly bifurcated. downeastnc
Duck reporting sustained winds in the mid to upper 60's with gust to 80 at this station but it hasnt updated in 45 mins https://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=pws:MDUKN7 I had 4.5" in my gauge this morning but I bet I had closer to 6-7"... for hrs last night it was raining hard and sideways and that was after I had checked and had almost 4" ....that in addition to the 2.5" I had Thur evening in the thunderstorms then.... downeastnc
Looks like they had a tornado on Hatteras Island, I did watch a nasty couplet cross the island and this morning it appears a house was destroyed and a RV park was hit...6-7 pics below of campers blown into the canal. yotaman
We ended up with 4.20" from Hermine. Lowest pressure was 29.45". Not sure about the winds but I see no branches down anywhere in the neighborhood so I doubt we got much above 40mph. Rather pleasant out right now if not a bit windy. Currently sitting at 70/69. Winds in the 15-25mph range with occasional gusts up to 30.
